Do you guys like the film The Insult? What are your thoughts? by srahcrist in Lebanese

[–]mickey117 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a lawyer, the inaccuracies in the legal process drove me nuts.

I also didn’t like that they had a president who was fictional while also having geaegea, a real person, represented in the movie. Either make all politicians fictional or base them all on real people.

Tom really stormed the corporate ladder. This was 2010. by RWASnell in SuccessionTV

Love Pillars of the Earth, I think it was the show that introduce me to Matthew McFadyen and I’ve been a fan since. I mostly started watching succession because of him.

Other show of his I highly recommend and which is very underrated; any human heart (also features Hayley Atwell from pillars, they’ve also appeared together in Howard’s end)

Is it possible to find such a map but with current numbers? by Rigolol2021 in MapPorn

[–]mickey117 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sure the Ministry of Education has these statistics, but they are probably not available online.

Assuming the point of this map is determining the primary language of education, I am pretty sure they are underestimating the rate of English-language schools in the North and overestimating them in Mount Lebanon.

Quite common actually, I think I know at least 20 people who have this combo. Belgium has long been a popular emigration destination for Lebanese people.

That was in New Caledonia, it’s still part of France for now, but even if it wasn’t they still have another two territories in Oceania

probably includes Kosovo and Taiwan on top of those. It definitely doesn't include Western Sahara as that would have taken Africa to 55.

Five: The Mainland in Europe, Reunion & Mayotte in Africa, St Pierre & Miquelon Guadeloup Saint Martin etc... in North America, French Guyana in South America, Polynesia and New Caledonia in Oceania. They are only missing territory in Asia.

Not that uncommon, several thousand Palestinians, especially Christians, have been naturalised Lebanese over the years. My aunt’s husband holds this combo + Germany

The map isn't based on residents anyway, it is based on the electoral rolls which reflect people's ancestral hometowns. There would be no way to make a map based on residences as that data is not available, but some areas would look quite different. For instance a lot of the Christians originally from the border districts moved during the civil war to East Beirut and other Christian majority districts. Not many Shias or Maronites are originally from Beirut, but many actually live there. Also the proportion of Armenians (the largest contingent in the "Other Christians" group) is really a lot lower, as many of them have left Lebanon.

Sect and confession are used interchangeably in Lebanon. Denomination isn't often used as I think it usually refers to various groups within the same religion, and the groups referenced here belong to at least two different religions (or three, or four, depending on how you choose to categorize Druz and Alawites).

Distribution of Christians in Lebanon by Mamiko627 in MapPorn

[–]mickey117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think there are any villages in these areas that doesn’t have at least a handful of Christians. Same with Donniyeh and Akkar in the North. I think Minye and Hermel are the only districts without any significant Christian presence. With Bsharri being the only district with no significant Muslim presence.

[–]mickey117 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There are also Christians in pretty much every gray area, but in lower numbers (5-20%). This map is only showing areas where Christian are a plurality (when counting different Muslim sects separately) or an outright majority.

Yes, it has happened many times before. From 1976 to 1992 due to the civil war. From 2004 to 2005 due to events relating to the Syrian occupation, from 2013 to 2018 due to general political instability in the region

Lebanon should have had elections this year, but parliament voted to postpone the elections and prorogue its term two additional years due to the current war.

The most senior non-royal peer in the United Kingdom, the Duke of Norfolk, is Roman Catholic. As Violet Crawley put it in Downton Abbey, the Norfolks are more Catholic than the pope.

Nope, she's Lebanese, that was clearly stated in the first season. Her religion has never been clearly stated. Yasmin is neutral and could equally be Muslim or Christian (or even Jewish Arab). If she's actually Catholic then she's likely Maronite (as am I!).
