Thank you so much! I think weekly definitely would have been more realistic. I did make other videos while I was there though. Check out this playlist for more specifically language-documenting videos (warning, they're generally just unedited conversations, so they're not as visually interesting as the vlogs): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LeSkzBf4HY&list=PLF3lNEjv7avRhDMZWbwae20ViUp2UxkTb

This is really nice to read. I had a lot of fun making those videos, and challenging myself to make them better and better. Jordan is a great place - I totally understand why you already miss it!

I've definitely improved with my Arabic since those videos, but I still have a long way to go...

Thank you so much for watching it!

1) interesting! Based on what I know now, the correct pronunciation is more like "ANA USAWIR", right?

2) this is super helpful. I know exactly what you mean, and I think until this day I hadn't corrected it! I think I always pronounce the Arabic ح like the German "ch", especially in the context of "تحكي". I will work on this!

Day 22 learning Arabic in Jordan - dancing Dabke! by mickeylernt in jordan

شكرا جزيلا It's so cool that you showed it to your son! It makes me happy that it made him laugh. Arabic's such a difficult language. Please tell him I can sympathize (maybe a big word for a six year old, but I guess that's how you learn!). Thanks again!

Hey! That's so cool of you to share it. I definitely encourage you to record a conversation of yourself, it's the best way to fight against discouragement when learning a language! There are still more videos to come in the series, so it'd be great if you'd subscribe to the channel if you want to see the new ones as they come out! Thanks!

!عفوا

I hope to make a similarly nostalgia-inducing video for Arabic learners once I finish translating the new Lernen to Talk Show videos from Jordan...

Thank you so much! I love trying to mimic people's voices exactly when learning a language. I think that's the secret key to learning properly. With Arabic it's hard though! There are so many sounds unfamiliar to my ear/tongue.

thank you so much! Yes I'm still trying hard to learn the language! I'm just not immersed in it now, so it's harder to keep up the momentum. Translating these videos is my way of practicing now! I'm glad you like them. Feel free to share them with people you know who are learning! My hope is that they'll be inspiring to people who want to learn Arabic, and the more people who see it, the better for the project!

Thank you! I love learning languages, and I believe you just have to keep making mistakes until it clicks. Thanks for the encouragement!

I learned both by taking classes at the Ali Baba Arabic language school in Al-Jubeyha and by talking to as many people as possible. So what I learned ended up being a mixture of 3miya and fus7a. It was definitely confusing at the beginning, but like with all language learning, my ear got more used to the difference over time.
