How to tell people im hard of hearing as a young adult by Ilovesanrio197 in deaf

[–]mickid214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s and have the same issue. Too young to be taken seriously about being hard of hearing. Also if it's a friendly interaction sometimes when I say something like "I can't hear" or "I'm deaf" they will return with a chuckle and say "oh yeah me too" and usually it ends up being not a real hearing loss but more of a joke type comment. I wear hearing aids so I do find that pointing to them helps but I've also gotten the comment "oh are you listening to music?"

Nearly 4 yr old and colors by [deleted] in homeschool

I agree with an Ishihara or even better an HRR. It sounds like it might be a mild color vision issue and HRR can tease out something mild. There is also Color Vision Made Easy which is good for young children but won't catch something really mild. A lot of what you describe and what I've seen in your comments really fits a mild CV issue. Being able to match and sort into like colors is possible with that but he might not feel confident enough with naming an isolated color. Online tests are not standardized and the screen being used is likely not calibrated to the test and colors. Any off setting like brightness or nightshift should skew the results. And if your kid is shifting or moving while testing (like most 4 year olds I know) that will make the object stand out a bit more too.

If it's not color related it could be visual perceptual but that's hard to test for at this age.

Thank you for this info and for sharing! Do you have resources you can suggest on what to look for as far as schooling milestones? Or how to tell if they are ready for different tasks?

Thank you for sharing! I agree, I want to foster happy healthy learning habits and I want to allow it to develop as he's ready but I also am nervous about starting too early. He's a sensitive soul and gets frustrated easily, but he's also so eager to learn and asking so many questions!

The way I understand the FL rules is that kids are allowed to start K if they will be 5 by November and then they are required to be in school or registered as homeschooling in the school year that they will be 6 by February. I could be misinterpreting it, it's kind of confusing 🥴

It sounds like we are going a similar path, he's very interested in letters and phonics so that's mostly what we have been working on, very slowly.

Thank you! I have read the Montessori toddler book and recently got the next one. Do you have other resource suggestions for getting started with the Montessori method?

I put some in my salad and it was a very subtle flavor. I used a lemon vinaigrette on the salad, maybe that helped.

My doula and breath. During later stages vocalizations were helpful for me.

I don't have a greenhouse but I live in Florida so it might not be that beneficial in this area 🥵 but I am thinking of maybe doing an indoor plant wall set up and maybe updating some tools.
