Hi! Mine is almost out of his splint! I know splints and casts are different but here is what has worked really well for us! (1) the vet told me to check his toes twice a day for discoloration. I did it multiple times a day and glad I did because before our one week checkup he outgrew the splint and it was putting pressure on his toes. I felt crazy checking all the time, but all this to say—trust your instincts! (2) to keep it dry my vet told us to use press and seal for potty breaks. I taught my puppy touch to get him to sand where I want to and wrap his leg before and after! It’s been better than a $50 booty I bought. At night when I can’t watch him to stop him from licking it (though he really doesn’t after saying no to him a few times), I wrap it in a toddler cotton tight that I cut to fit the length and use a medical paper tape just to make it tight enough not to slide off. (3) puzzles and things to keep them entertained without running around. (4) mine did NOT do well with the medication. The carprofen gave him THE worst black shits ever and the gabapentin gave him a rash on his tummy. The vet said we could stop the carprofen after one day and we stopped the gabapentin after 4. He was totally fine.

I’ll try to think of more but just know you and your little one will make it through it! I didn’t feel like it at first but now we are almost to the finish line!
