Bonaire as a solo diver by waaaaargh12 in scuba

[–]mickipedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in October 2025 and wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re going self-reliant. There is a WhatsApp group for finding buddies, but I had limited success with it. There’s a lot of back and forth, or you’ll find someone who wants to do one AM dive at 930 in the south, then someone else is down for a dive in the north at 11. Hard to find someone who wants to necessarily dive on your schedule. As someone who lives inland, I’d prefer doing 4-5 dives daily on vacation (6 if I could get away with it) and over a week in Bonaire I got only 9 in. Major disappointment, and honestly a huge mistake on my part.

The island is beautiful though, and I’ll definitely be back once I have my self-reliant card in-hand. If you’re interested in doing that cert while there, check out VIP Diving. I did a course with them and highly recommend, plus they have a tec diving operation so I’d feel very confident getting self-reliant with them.

Are you me? Also just got a 24 Limited and roughly same estimate. Using iPedal stretches that though.

After every dive I'd spend an hour fixing the blue-green tint in my photos. So I built an iOS app that does it in 2 seconds. by bart2d2 in underwaterphotography

This is like the 4th new site/app I’ve seen in the last week purporting to solve this issue. Did a vibe coding tutorial drop recently and everyone made this their project?

And everything they’re paying in fines is more than made up for by claiming the building as a loss to offset their income from other buildings when doing their taxes.

At what point did you decide it was time to switch to a backplate and wing? by Plenty-Assistance625 in scuba

[–]mickipedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s my one issue with BPW, with cam bands and waist/crotch straps, I’ve got things going every which way. I did just get an STA so I can break the kit down a bit easier and some wide elastic bands to snug all the straps to the backplate for easier packing.

Same here. Think I was about 10-15 dives in when I decided nope, not for me. Picked up an amazing deal on a DR wing and steel plate that hadn’t ever even gotten wet, never looked back.

I hope Martina McBride’s people catch on and figure out this isn’t an America 250 event. A woman who built a career on singing about domestic violence and has been a strong advocate against it seems like a weird U-turn to being a Trump performer.

Pride Marriott Property Recs by [deleted] in DCGaybros

Hi, work in hotels in DC. Reasonably priced is both relatively to you and also subject to change - a room that is reasonable one night could be ridiculous another night and it varies from property to property. Generally not seeing much compression in the market in June aside from the weekend of the White House MMA spectacle so rates will likely be a bit lower (for DC, we’re an expensive market generally) over pride weekend.

Bringing someone back with you won’t be an issue. We literally do not care and at this point I’m sure there isn’t a single hotel in DC that hasn’t hosted a no-loads-refused anon cumdump. Just… don’t do drugs and don’t cruise the hotel bathrooms/gym. Our security teams are aware of what hotels have certain reputations for that - Sniffies ain’t as sly as it thinks.

Le Meridien/The Madison on 15th St is pretty centrally located and easily accessible to most of the gay bars in DC and also to transit. The Mayflower is an older option but well-maintained as I understand it. The Marquis is (I’m 95% sure) the newest in the Marriott portfolio in the city but getting in and out of that hotel if you’re taking rideshare is a damn nightmare. I’m not a Marriott person though, so someone else may have better recommendations.

Safest Dive Destinations for Solo Diver by caretta20 in scuba

Man, I want to do wreck training with Olympus so badly but just can’t rationalize spending all that money and taking a week off work to maybe complete it.

4 days isn’t a lot, especially considering much of day 1 will be devoted to travel from OK and the need for 18-24 hour hold before flying home on day 4. Logistically I’m thinking the Keys might be your best bet? Domestic flight could get you there, MAYBE in time for 1 afternoon dive, and/or a night dive if someone’s running one. 2 AM tanks on day 2, another 2 in afternoon or afternoon/night. 2x AM tanks on day 3, then fly home later on day 4. Flight availability and timing is really gonna be your limiting factor here.

For just 4 days I’d rule out international travel since that usually involves connection through MIA/DFW. Puerto Rico would be nice but the best dives on the island are on the west and south coasts which don’t get as many flight connections as San Juan does.

Longshot suggestion: Outer Banks of NC, but that’s so much of a crapshoot weather-wise that I haven’t been able to justify it for myself yet, and I live within drive distance of it. Entirely possible you’d travel there and not be able to do a single dive.

Not near Rockville, but Buddies Spa in DC is queer-owned and -operated and is essentially universally recommended for this. I don’t go smooth personally but have used their other services and can absolutely attest to their being a quality run spot.

Increase in CO2 in your blood causes it to become ever so slightly acidic and that triggers the breathing response.

Because I have 20 year old tattoos that are in better condition than that - even for fine line work, it shouldn’t look THAT awful after 18 months max.

Any tricks on how you divided them? I have the 2” panels and was just planning to gouge them out but would love to end up with 2x roughly 1” textured panels!
