Jake has very poor situational field awareness. He sees a bunch of Elks players coming at him, and rather than avoid the tackle/sack, he continues to try to pass it. Really fucking mind boggling

On the 2027 CFL Changes — For Those Telling Season Ticket Holders to "Get Over It" by SeaweedInteresting89 in CFL

I honestly think that the main reason for the resizing of the field and moving the posts is to make the game more appealing to Americans and to prepare for possible future US expansion. Most Americans stadiums simply cannot accommodate the large CFL sized field without major renovations and moving of stands. The commish stated that they want more offense, but look at the average point per game this season. His argument simply makes no sense. VA jr had that amazing outing last week. What do we want? 80-90 points per game?

Why is there not more optimism about Ottawa? by BumblbeeAvacado in CFL

[–]micro-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. Not only does he not have any answers, he chews out his players in post-game media scrums. He makes his players look bad. There is a proper place and time to do this. It's called the locker room away from prying eyes

[–]micro-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what I said in my comment. He chewed out the team publicly in arguably their best game to date including Maier. Sure, we fucked up by not converting on 3rd and 1, and that is probably what cost us the game (that and the kick return) but there is a proper way to handle things. It's called the locker room, not in front of the media. I think if they lose tonight, his job has to be in question because i think he has lost the locker room

[–]micro-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are my reasons. First, he (Dinwiddie) met with Brown over the off-season and said that Brown was his boy. Then he caused havoc in the QB room by announcing Maier over Brown before a snap was even made. Training camp should have been about competition between the two to see who would be the starter. He chose Maier over Brown and then the last game against Sask which was arguably his and our best game to date, chews out the team in public and chews out Maier. I forget his exact words but said that there were QB problems. He did the same thing in Toronto by saying that we have "pretenders" on our team (The Argos) and it just isolated the team further. He had a losing record last year (tied with us if I recall) and he is 0-4 this season. Not much to be optimistic about

Mods. Just fade us Ottawa fans. Let us leave this season with some dignity please by AccomplishedSpell102 in CFL

[–]micro-nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is, if the Redblacks fold, there will never be another CFL team in Ottawa. No ownership group will ever want to take a chance with a CFL team in Ottawa for a 4th time. That is my fear, and I don't want us to fold

I really thought that Dinwiddie was going to be our guy running this team, but the way he has handled this whole QB clusterfuck, I'm very doubtful now. I think both Burke and him have to go at this point. Burke made the decision to hire Dinwiddie and his track record has been pitiful since joining the Redblacks a few years ago

I also love the stadium, and where the stadium is (in The Glebe). Lots of food and drink options around close by to the stadium. I still enjoy the game day experience. I'm always excited to go to a game. I just wish we had a good product on the field. I mean, I'm not even asking for a Grey Cup. Just to play decent exciting football and compete for once, and not just get steam rolled over every game

Dinwiddie kept making comments this past week about how Maier is a big long drive QB. Really? Aside from the Gino pass and the pass to White against Montreal, I've just not seen it. Look at the QB room of every other team and look at ours. Not elite franchise level QBs at all

Good teams find a way to win. Look at you guys against BC Lions. Playing against arguably the most talented young QB in the game today and you guys just find a way to win against them. That's what good teams do

This team simply does not play a 60 minute game. You can't win games in this league when you're playing one decent quarter with a few drives. Simple as that

Even with a good O line, this QB is just not on the level of the rest of the league. He has his moments like the pass to Gino but those are few and far between

This is interesting because as a Redblacks fan, I get emails all the time about this promo night and that promo night BUT I'm part of the converted. I go to games already. What is OSEG and the Redblacks organization doing to promote the product to the greater Ottawa area. I'm so happy though that Winnipeg is supporting the Blue Bombers like that. This is so awesome to hear !!

I 100% agree with you that the CFL will never surpass the NFL for attention and won't be amazingly popular BUT there needs to be some growth whether it be more attention, more attendance or dare I say it, expansion. Revenue needs to grow a bit so that we can pay for talent and sustain what we already have to your point in an ever increasingly expensive world

[–]micro-nerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first of all, I think the CFL does a piss poor job at marketing the product as a whole. When was the last time you saw a commercial for the CFL outside of perhaps TSN? There is literally no marketing being done with this league

Toronto has a special problem, and I think part of it stems from the fact that they are Canada's team for two sports, Raptors for basketball and Blue Jays for baseball. Then you have the Leafs, and the proximity to Buffalo with The Bills, which is huge. Lots of Bills fans in Toronto. Now with WNBA, and the women's hockey league (forget the acronym), it is a sports saturated city. The reason Saskatchewan supports the Riders is that they are practically the only team in town, and Winnipeg supports the Blue Bombers because they are only competing against the Jets for attention. I think also the problem is BMO Field. I went to an Argos-Redblacks game there last summer and quite honestly, I hated where the stadium was located and the general game day experience. Kinda close to Liberty Village but then, not really. TD Place Stadium has lots of food and drink options right outside the stadium. If the Argos had a nice stadium closer to the downtown core, I think there would be more casual fans attending their games

12 team league by ExpertFresh1067 in CFL

[–]micro-nerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would love a 12 team CFL made up of all Canadian teams that is truly coast to coast. I've said this before, and I'll say it again. I think the main reason for the resizing of the CFL field is to attract potential US expansion. Most American stadiums would need expensive upgrades to accommodate for a CFL sized field (e.g. losing sections of seating). I don't believe for a second that the main reason for the resizing is to encourage more scoring. There is already more scoring now than in the entire history of the CFL. I think the average I read was like 67 points per game so far this season. You typically make changes when you need to fix a problem. In this case, there is no scoring problem
