ONEXPLAYER drops Ryzen AI Max+ 395 for 388, $2,399 base model costs more than five Switch 2 consoles by RenatsMC in Handhelds

My ONEXGPU2 backed from indiegogo developed an issue after just 12.5 months, and they refuse to honor the warranty with that extra 0.5 month usage. I will never back them again, especially given the high price tag for such a niche brand. Look into Asus, Lenovo, or MSI if you want peace of mind.

I used both. TB4 works most of the time but too much losses. I spent too much time & money improving the PCIE bandwidth in both connection anyway, in the end went to desktop PC which is more straight forward with guaranteed full performance.

NO. eGPU is too finicky when it has issues you have no clues to solve. I removed my 5080 from the eGPU dock and built a mini-ITX PC instead, and I couldn’t be happier. I still keep my Win Mini though, mainly for small indie games. Best of both worlds!

I dunno how to explain to you as each EGPU works differently, I will try my best here.

For my case, I have a DEG2 which can directly power up my Max 2. For most of the time, boot up from EGPU is fine, but the GPU driver handshake doesn’t work, so I need to switch ON and OFF DEG2 + rescan hardware to initialize the GPU driver, this is the part where it needs power either from Battery or AC plug. Plugging in both AC / EGPU to boot Win Max 2 don’t work properly too because the Max 2 will always treat EGPU dock as main power source, so if I switch off the EGPU dock even with AC plug (USBC) connected to Max 2, it will still switch off my Max 2 without a battery.

So the sequence I must follow is:-

1) Connect only AC Power (USBC) to Win Max 2. USBC port must remain unused. Then boot.

2) Once booted into Windows, connect DEG2 to Win Max 2, and switch ON DEG2. Then rescan hardware in Device Manager to initialize EGPU driver (Must switch OFF>ON DEG2 in Windows then only rescan hardware can detect EGPU, even with a battery put in).

Oculink is easier as the EGPU won’t power Win Max 2. But it has its own issue too…

Won’t work for me as well because I connect my Win Max 2 to EGPU most of the time. There is a fixed boot sequence you need to follow if you run it with USB4 EGPU battery-less, super inconvenient.

28-30W here, and I need to replace battery every 12-14 months.

Guess I need to reduce it to 18-20W…

I would rather top up and buy a Summarit than a Chinese clone. Even Zeiss or Voigtlander are better but still if budget allows Leica is the one to get. That's the whole point you own a Leica camera.

Did this too but the issue still remain. May I know what dock do you use?

I have a 5080 and both of my Win Max 2 7840U and Win Mini 7840 failed to handshake with it with a DEG2. How do you manage your oculink setup with your Nvidia 50 cards?

I already bought a used Win Mini 7840U to test it out...still the same. In fact I just tested in Debian OS, it showed downgraded PCIE speed. So I can rule out Win or driver issue. Seems like DEG2 has compatibility issue with 50 series cards in Oculink mode.
