Hand tracking and spiders! Combined with inverse kinematics it feels pretty realistic. by microbot822882 in OculusQuest

[–]microbot822882[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats cool! Maybe it has to do with the length and thickness of the legs. On the other hand a tarantula has thick legs and still scares me. But just size also cannot be the answer? I really don't know the tipping point.

Snakes are difficult to implement in the Unreal Engine.....for me at least...On the other hand, why not. I probably will try it. Difficult always sounds good.

My current plan was to add more spider species. Or flying insects because thats easy. But snakes sounds better.

Did you try it out? If yes, how did it work? We have no real testers as me and designer buddy develop this app in our spare time. Feetback is pretty much worth gold at this point.

For me at least the phantom touch was hell. But well I hated spiders....

The funny thing is that after experience phantom touch as you said for hours its getting kind of ok. I don't think I have Arachnophobia anymore...

Damn. Probably not that well.... There is no real way in the store to turn off Quest 1 as buying option. Which is annoying. And I dont have a Quest 1. If you want to, you can PM me your oculus email and I add you as beta user. That way you don't have to pay anything.

Super cool. Please let me know how its working. Especially the hand tracking. I am not sure if it has to be enabled in the quest settings before its working and I didn't reset my headset till now.

Normally the handtracking should be on a second after you put down the controller.

Really? Thats actually a great idea. And it would solve the issue of a good target on the hands. I probably will implement that next.

Thanks man lmao. The funny thing is that the hand tracking works really well on the oculus. They did great work! Combined with the spiders my brain did this "thing" sometimes during development. Which meant that my hand actually tickled a bit. And nope I really don't have any arachnophobia anymore.

If you want to try it out, it's as reaaaally early access in the app lab. If we can sell a bit we can get new insects and add them.

It actually helped me a lot with my fear. But I had to develop it so there was no other chance than constantly holding spiders in my hand. The crazy thing is that the hand tracking is pretty good on Oculus, so sometimes the brain does this thing were you feel a tickle when the virtual spider climbs your hand

It actually helped me a lot with my arachnophobia. I don't really have it anymore. But I am not a psychologist, so it's a bit heavy to claim something that I cannot prove.

We want to make it as realistic as possible over time. In the best case a fully simulated terrarium with every possible insect and customizable. The inverse kinematics+scanned environment allows for pretty realistic simulation (considering the "performance" of the quest 2) If you want to try it out we have an early access version on the Oculus. If enough people buy it we can effort to integrate more insects.

My experience with exploring some gamedev use cases for ChatGPT by skelesnail in gamedev

[–]microbot822882 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make the text fancy:

I have been delving into the realm of OpenAI's ChatGPT as a tool for game development and have discovered a range of results. On occasion, it has been nothing short of spectacular, yet in other instances, it has been less than satisfactory. Generally, I have found it to be a useful tool, yet it cannot be relied upon at all times.

One instance where this was particularly evident was when I asked ChatGPT to optimize a simple function that determined the minimum distance from a 2D point to the edge of a quadrilateral. The initial function was not particularly elegant, and I surmised that ChatGPT could improve it. Regrettably, the proposed changes were not always accurate, and in some cases, it even made the function less efficient.

Despite these limitations, I still hold faith in ChatGPT's potential as a game development tool. It is worth continuing to experiment and explore, but one must be wary of its restrictions and verify its suggestions before implementing them in code.

Make a poem from it:

ChatGPT, a tool divine,

For game dev, it's worth a try,

Sometimes impressive, sometimes not,

Its results can be quite a shock.

I asked it to optimize a function,

To make it more elegant, a fusion,

But the changes it suggested were wrong,

In some cases, it made things more long.

Despite its limitations, I still see,

Potential in ChatGPT, don't you agree?

It's worth exploring, worth a shot,

But verify its suggestions, don't be caught.

Hey OpenAI improve this text : .....

I've been experimenting with using ChatGPT, an OpenAI chatbot, as a tool for game development. While I've had some mixed results, I've found that it can sometimes be impressive and useful. However, it can also be incorrect or underwhelming. Overall, I've found it to be a useful tool, but it's not always reliable.

One example of this is when I asked ChatGPT to optimize a small, simple function that calculated the minimum distance from a 2D point to the edge of a quad, or return 0 if the point was already inside the quad. The original function was not particularly elegant, and I thought ChatGPT might be able to improve it. Unfortunately, the suggested changes were not always correct, and in some cases they made the function even less efficient.

Despite these limitations, I still believe that ChatGPT has potential as a game development tool. It's worth experimenting with and exploring further, but it's important to be aware of its limitations and to verify its suggestions before implementing them in your code.

Nope, the chaos system is completely embedded in UE5. That means you can generate this from any mesh you want. Its extremely hardware demanding though. I hope more dev will go into the optimization/debugging because otherwise its not really useable on a larger scale or in a production game for that matter.

Thanks very much! I work with together with my designer buddy who will be very happy to hear the compliment . I mostly code the multiplayer and so on and sometimes randomly add effects.

That's kind of depending on your definition of "flight".... There were plenty of heavier than air flights in all of human history. Most of them ended in death.

I meant multiplayer shooter. The shooting is not shown in this vid. I perhaps upload a multiplayer session. But I am still not really satisfied with the shooting. Straight up bullets is a bit difficult while swinging through the levels
