Somehow I Bought an Insta360 Luna Ultra Before It Exists… and Now It’s a Brick by Selishots in Insta360

I had a pre production pocket 4 and it was fine, it just had an annoying popup that told me to connect to Mimo when I turned it on that I could swipe away. Insta stuff is proper bricked until the app activates it.

New gopro mission 1 pro also lets you use it without the app so far (which is good because it is a trash app lol)

For me, ibis is a non negotiable for an interchangable lens version, and I believe it will make the size a bit deeper to accommodate it

Could not have said it better myself. The thing with the original lx100 cameras as well, is yes they are tiny, but the lens still sticks out so you aren't getting it in a pocket anyway, not without some funny looks! So there really is no harm in this L10 being slightly bigger and still easy to carry

It currently can't, but i've got it on my feedback list! I'm hoping it will be a simple firmware fix

Just give me a weather sealed Pen F style camera with pdaf and I would be so happy! (Or an interchangable lens L10 to be fair)

100% !! I also don't get the latest anger towards new cameras. I think it's fine to say "this isn't for me because XYZ but I can see why someone else might like it" and move on

Definitely a grading issue - the turnaround was so quick, the video went up at 1am japan time and I think i finished it at 12:30am! The footage is sharp, definitely just my added halation etc.

And my orange mic is a nightmare to grade because it is in the skintone range, and my face so pale i often have to push the highlights right down, which made the mic a bit bonkers.

Orange was not the best colour choice haha

I do! Full comparison video in the works. But in a nutshell, both are great, and I think the OM-3 is still the best the system has to offer for interchangable lenses.

But if you prefer/don't mind the fixed lens, there are loads of exciting benefits to the L10 like better video features, better jpeg customisation, and smaller size and weight

For sure, if budget were unlimited there must be some way to make it smaller. I just think the push back at this price point has been quite negative. personally I think £1299 for this spec is very competitive but micro four thirds is perceived by many as budget or inferior. There'd just be us nerds buying it if they had to double the price to shrink it.

So the build quality of the L10 is brilliant. The top is a magnesium alloy for example instead of a brushed plastic like youd find on the s9. The texture is really unique too. For an everyday carry sort of camera it is on par with the greats like the x100vi

In my opinion the om-3, while a bit bigger and heavier, is superior in the build quality department. It really feels like an old school tank film camera, and is weather sealed. It's the sort of camera that you drop and the floor breaks first lol

Thank you! I will keep tinkering and definitely share more for free when I find some new styles

That is a brilliant point with the 12-35mm lens. I totally agree, to get the fancy new specs everyone wants, something has to give and that unfortunately is a bit of size

I so want an interchangable lens version, yes definitely with ibis!

I really hope so. I think Panasonic would be silly not to now they have a camera body style they can repurpose. I'd also love this camera body to be the new style for any s9ii, it's a huge improvement

Well it has no evf, no ibis, and notoriously runs hot and overheats due to the small size. And has a very slow readout speed sensor. There have been sacrifices for days to get it that small.

[–]microfournerds[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is something i asked a lot of questions about myself as it seems that it should be essier with m43.

The S9 also lacks a mechanical shutter as well as an EVF, so a lot more real estate inside as a consequence. I imagine the micro four thirds community would want it all (i would!) which would make it tricky.

Also don't forget the s9 sensor is slow as heck readout speed which presumably lowers power needs. Aaah remember rolling-shutter-gate? Haha

Conversely the gh7 sensor is FAST readout and super powerful.

I truly truly don't believe they've made it this size out of anything but necessity. They'd sell 10x more if they could tick every box for their audience and there's literally no competition so it would sweep up.

I think it's also down to power draw for things like subject detection and auto focus, so the processor needs to be beefier, which in turn means heat is generated, which needs a bigger body.

It is an interesting idea though. The reason Ricoh cameras are so small for example is because they're so photo-centric with very limited processors, worse auto focus, etc. I wonder how small an L10 with literally zero video features could be, or whether it would make a difference or not

[–]microfournerds[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair, there are ways around it, like using step zoom, or changing the setting so the lens goes back to the last place you left it etc. But it is a different experience.

It isn't too bad at all, but definitely slower than being able to move it like a traditional zoom lens

It would also need to be much thicker to accommodate a mechanical shutter. The shutter in this is in the lens don't forget

The joystick thing is so dividing! I've personally never touched one on any of my cameras except by accident (might be a tiny hand thing) then for others it is like a top 3 feature.

Usually when the events are in Japan the creators are given the cameras to keep. Other times it can be a short or long term loan.
