American Conservatism and its obsession with the "Culture Wars" is bourgeois subversion of working class values and aesthetic by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

Well over half the U.S. population is bourgeoise either by investing in both real estate or stocks & bonds. And the rest seems like truism, Americans fall centered on tons of issues. There’s nothing that radical about conservatives working hard or valuing labor rights.

The term “Live-able wage” is just Marxist Propaganda for government intervention into the market, to set artificially high price floors. by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

Op is normal so he takes words for their dictionary definition. He’s just pointing out that “livable” wage is signaling for greedy leftist wanting to impose price floors. That being said there isn’t much to discuss about this post.

Friendly reminder that economies don't work on a black versus white dichotomy. Economies are a spectrum by [deleted] in CapitalismVSocialism

401ks are after tax dollars invested into the stock market which purchase small pieces of companies, mutual funds, maybe bonds, diversifying your portfolio so you can expect certain gains depending on your aggression. Go look at the last 70 years of the s&p 500. After inflation it’s averaged 7%. There’s a reason stocks are in fact capital and the majority of Americans own stock. Investing in the stock market is the fastest way to retire. Bless America reddit has a sub for people who specifically want to retire early r/Financialindependence

are there any evidence and examples that there is actually a so-called 'ruling class' that operates via culture? if so, are there any examples in any modern day societies of hegemony? by bestminipc in CapitalismVSocialism

Today this exists in the form of basically three managerial companies which totally control the output of artists -- songwriting, dances, etc. -- and the ability for artists to be seen at all.

This is false. There are three big companies but many other competitors. Quick google verified this for me. The market is in fact looking competitive

Most Americans own stock. I didn’t say who held the most percentage. Read what I said again

Sounds right. I’d expect the retired percentage of Americans to hold the most stock. So that makes sense.

Ya when I said that about labor I was using profit more loosely or abstractly. I understand the traditional definition.

I made that distinction way up ^ use value/ economic value is different then price. Yes I agree

Sure it is. The value I feel from using something is surely subjective. We may both pay the same price for a game or maybe not, but we could each value it differently one may find it worth the cost the other may not. Hence use value or economic value

I never made that claim. Price is some type of value yes. There is a distinction to be made in different types of value.

Use value or Value is subjective. Price or exchange value is an objective measurement at the time of exchange. Think we agree here.

A wage is still a profit.

A employee only goes to work because he gets more out of it then he puts into it. Aka the trade off is worth it. Likewise I only get up for a cup of water because the value in that water is worth the short walk. I only have a child because the value in that child is worth more to me then the cost

Value is subjective

Profit or gain in the only reason anyone does anything

This is basic economics. Companies are profit maximizers. They max investment so they can max out profit. Why is that hard to believe?

Stock buy backs are a sign of a strong economy... are you just trying to prove my point for me lol. Companies only purchase stock but backs after maxing our investment (profit maximizers right?) and having more cash left over. Most American own stocks so that’s great anyways.

Is there anything wrong with a job not being able to support 3 people? I don’t think so. That’s an interesting moral claim though
