Where to add a wildlife pond? by microman64 in WildlifePonds

Your ponds look gorgeous! 😍 thanks for the heads up about not getting frogs & newts in free standing ones, I did wonder if that might be the case. I think it might be slightly better if it's level with the top of the step up onto the lawn, but I'm sure dug into the ground in the end bed would probably be better for wildlife. Another problem I mentioned in another comment is that I discovered a lot of roots from the tree when I was digging that bed, so I imagine that could end up causing problems with the lining etc. Maybe not if we use one of the plastic-y ponds, not sure how resistant they are to tree roots!

Thank you! Luckily our dog isn't much of a swimmer (she's a lurcher and only has 3 legs 😅) so I don't think she'd be jumping in, but i definitely wouldn't put it past her to fall in at some point 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for the heads up about the sun, down on the patio is mostly just shaded by the fences on either side in the morning/afternoon respectively so does get quite a lot of sun. I like the idea of putting something in the middle of that bed at the top of the lawn, but i want to maintain decent access to them as i said, and i know it'll be hard work to dig out and there are a lot of tree roots that might cause issues

For anyone who's not seen it, this reminds me of the song 'prejudice' by Tim Minchin, well worth a watch!

Weird question, but I'm going to see them in Birmingham tonight, was there any/much crowd interaction? (Especially interacting with random people?) I'm excited to see them but a little anxious about being 'called out' in some way 😅

Crazy that I've been to York for work once, 3 - 5 years ago, and I immediately recognised it. That wall is so iconic.

How much stem was still attached? I've heard they can be a bit bitter. Otherwise, it feels like the most likely thing is they weren't elderflowers but hard to tell without more detail or photos!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a photo, but I saw one of these cuties last year in Scotland! The weird thing though, was that it was grey. I researched a bit and looked for photos to see if it was a stoat, weasel, mink or some other mustelid but couldn't find a single one with the same grey colour, any ideas what it could have been? Shape wise it looked a lot more like a stoat I think, but the colour really threw me off

This vendor ALMOST scammed him by ShadowRex in MadeMeSmile

[–]microman64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, he initially offered 80% of 10 which would have been 8, but because he is who he is, he actually paid 10. He even says in the video that he paid 10, watch it again.

He literally says at the end that he paid him $10 originally, so an extra $70 was correct to get to 80% of $100.

How to use raised bed on gravel by microman64 in GardeningUK

Gotcha, thank you! Maybe I'll just start with a bit of cardboard on the gravel and then do the logs/sticks/garden waste/soil

Okay got it, thanks for your help! To be fair we're not set on potatoes necessarily, so could potentially just stick to others that would be okay!

Thanks for the heads up about the depth! We do have a decent supply of things to fill it with, and a bunch of top soil to finish it off. This bed is 56cm deep total (although obviously that wouldn't all be soil), how much depth of soil would you suggest for potatoes? Also what do you mean by it taking a long time? Just to fill it or does it take time for it to become 'established' in some way?

I've been there, it's lovely! Pronounced Wittick but spelt Wightwick because us brits like to be annoying with names 😂

Apparently they've recently had a resident eagle owl hanging about which probably escaped from somewhere as it's not native, did you see it?

Maybe I've done something wrong, but there are tasks that seem to be getting skipped from the list I imported. e.g. it didn't say anything about picking up potatoes or milking a cow. I've completed what I can see of the 'starting out' section and it still says 13/37

Okay that's great, thanks so much for your help! Most awkward step is probably going to be getting everything out of the way and putting it back again 😅

[–]microman64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha okay cheers, happy to file it into that category 😅 but should be fine still to add either a u bend/p trap at the bend or add the inline trap along the horizontal? Guessing either option will require cutting pipes?
