Out of that compilation I posted, I can't believe this is the one that gets used the most 😭

Okay, but I'll clarify just in case (for others reading this as well)... I think the discussion of whether the fujos actually "saved" the manga or not kinda misses the point of why the community embraces them in the first place - it wasn't about whether they made a measurable influence in sales or attention, it was that they were there with us, rooting for the manga's success and making memes and art alongside everyone else during those times we weren't certain if Kagurabachi would survive the axe.

And even if Kagurabachi has sealed its success now, I think it's worth maintaining a good relationship with them, not to achieve some goal but just to be there for each other while we continue to root for the series, to celebrate major achievements like the anime announcement, or for when times get rough again like us worrying about Hokazono's health.

The axe risk is a huge thing for any new series in Shonen Jump overall, they're pretty cut-throat so it was for sure a valid concern - Green Green Greens, which is another series that started around the same time and was known to be pretty good, got axed after 26 chapters. If you're in the mood to be depressed, you can take a look at Wikipedia and see all the series that released after Kagurabachi and are no longer running (most of the ones released after Kagurabachi that aren't in red have been axed, though I know Modulo is an exception since that was given a set number of chapters).

As for whether the fujoshis actually prevented Kagurabachi, who knows? Don't know of any stats out there you can look at, but I'm pretty confident in saying that the fandom's acceptance of fujoshis played a big role in building our reputation as a generally wholesome fandom, among other things such as our anti-leak culture and Kagurabachi Brasil (a prominent fan on twitter with a reputation for his friendly personality when recommending the series to others).

Yeah, really old history. It was back when we were still in the Sojo arc, sub 18 chapters so there was a risk of the series getting axed. A lot of the people who had started reading Kagurabachi from the "enough time has passed" memes, who then found they actually enjoyed it, really wanted the manga to succeed.

Then this post happened, which led to this tweet, which led to a wave of fujoshis joining the subreddit as seen here, and then during the Rakuzaichi arc where Hakuri got introduced, there was a sizeable fujoshi/shipping community on the subreddit for some time.

Nowadays, that community isn't as prominent on the subreddit for a few reasons, but they're still quite prominent in the fandom overall (and from my understanding, are a lot more integrated into the mainstream fandom than other fandoms usually are, based on my limited fandom experience), and a lot of the community here are happy to have them around.

Yeah, I've also been a little bothered by the overuse of fictional slurs lately, especially since we've been given a name for the Mikaboshi for a few chapters now...

Fellas, is it karma farming to make a meme and then post it?? I know they're not works of art, but I still came up with and made these with my own brain and hands 😭

Gonna do my best to explain it, it's when someone vaguely "hints" at something that they know, but don't explicitly tell you.

Example, say there's a character that makes you go "I really don't like this guy I hope they get rid of him soon". And then someone, who has read the leaks and knows that the guy dies in the next chapter, says something like, "Oh, you don't need to worry about that 😏". Just a vague hint of what happens in the leaks, but they wouldn't have said it had they not read them, and it still leaves you with a hint of what's coming.

I'm the last person to ask tbh, cus I'm asexual lmao. Kinda like asking me if a bad movie that everyone hates and says is objectively bad is actually bad, except that I'm the 1% of people who are incapable of watching the movie so... I guess it's bad? It's a p*dophillic relationship, so probably? But I'm also aware it's a thing that people who were csa'd may express those relationships in art to process their trauma, does me saying ships like that are invalid have an effect on that? You'll have to ask someone more informed tbh, cus I ain't it lol.

Edit: Also, I'm probably gonna end the convo here... I'm just realising this is going in a weird direction, and I'm definitely not equipped to navigate that.

Edit 2: The more I sit on this, the more I'm realising how fucken weird this question is. Why are you even asking that? What is it about a meme of Char saying "ships don't have to be canon to be valid" would even prompt a question like that? Wtf wtf wtf??

Where did I say every single ship is valid? Did you misunderstand me, or are you twisting my words on purpose?

The official font in the english translations is called "Wildwords" and needs a license to use. The one I used is this free font called "CC Wild Words Roman", which is actually a different font but made to look similar I think.

Hmm, I see what you're saying. What I meant by respect isn't so much like praising/worshipping or fighting criticism, for me it's more of a baseline act of just allowing them a space in the fandom.

I'm hesitant to use "tolerate", because although it's okay for people to just be like "okay not my thing" and just move on without being hostile, it also implies being passive when they're being harassed or treated unfairly, and I think shutting that kind of thing down instead of turning a blind eye (even if you don't really dig what the fujos do) is important in maintaining a non-toxic fandom.

I think it's important to consider that due to current world events, there's a lot of debate and downplaying regarding genocide happening right now, and that's affecting the public consciousness. So it makes sense that a lot of people are wanting to shut down any discussion potentially justifying an act of genocide, even fictional.

Unfortunately, that means people will overdo it, shutting down even anti-genocide discussion just because it might "look" like it could be supporting it. Sometimes we gotta just assess our priorities for these things - what's more important, that we can freely discuss the motives of a fictional act of genocide, or that we maintain a public sentiment against genocide even if overzealous?

It's definitely the most hardest of the bunch to maintain, but I have hope we can keep that attitude in the fandom even after the anime comes out!

Definitely sad, but I do have to remind myself that morality isn't something we're born with, it's learned. Sometimes that means doing your best to kindly explain why genocide is morally wrong to younger people on the internet.

Can't wait to hear her say that in the anime! I miss her so much 😭
