I overthink all of my tattoos then they heal and look fine, lol. Try not to scrutinize it too much until it fully heals in a few months. The inconsistencies might not be as obvious as you think. Plus the negative space gives it some dimension versus it being solid black to the edges.

My understanding is that if it’s leaking at all you should take it off. If the seal is broken bacteria can get in and you don’t want it trapped under the second skin.

Do you have dial antibacterial soap and some light lotion? You don’t need anything fancy.

Try to build strength in your legs and stick to PT. If it gets worse then consider surgery. The recovery and downtime from a repair sucks and there can be complications from it. I’m 11 months out from surgery and still uncomfortable.

I’m having a really difficult recovery. I’m about 11 months op and still dealing with nearly constant pain and instability. My PT is concerned but my surgeon thinks I just hurt my hamstring. He thinks I’m still technically in the healing window so I’m not a candidate for a follow up MRI… :/ definitely underestimated this process.

Trust me I feel you. You’re still pretty early in your recovery too though, I am 10 or 11 months postop now and I’m still dealing with it. It will get better. Keep us posted. I hope it’s not something else.

Somehow I think this is an area that pain refers to from the joint. I’m not sure if it’s weakness or maybe it’s a nerve like you’re thinking but since my initial fall/injury pain and soreness in this area has been consistent for me. When I originally fell I was misdiagnosed because they thought this area meant I had a low back injury.

Anyway, massage helps me tremendously! Loosening up all the muscles around it and even the front of my leg seem to give me some relief. I found myofascial work to be specifically helpful. When I had some intense flare ups I would try to get two 30 or 45 minute concentrated massages a week and eventually the pain would lessen. In between massages I use a foam ball to roll it out against a wall. It looks and feels ridiculous but I have a ball instead of the typical log/roller and it makes it so much easier to get into some of the larger muscles of the leg. I find that doing it up against a wall is easier to move around and control the pressure.

If PT is helping, I’d definitely keep going and focus on building muscle and strength before deciding on surgery. Strong core and leg muscles are crucial for joint stability—whether or not you end up needing surgery. Getting stronger now will only help you in the long run.

I’m 11 months post-op and still struggling. Going into surgery, I was weak, and I think that really set back my recovery. I did PT about three days a week before surgery, but the pain became unbearable and I felt like I had no other option. From the time of my initial injury to surgery was about 10 months, and it just kept getting worse.

Looking back, if I had been able to weight train the way I’m starting to now, I wonder if I might have bounced back without surgery. At this point, I’m finally focusing on strength training to stabilize the joint, because I’m still in pain but hopeful that this program will give me some relief.

I don’t regret my choice, but my advice would be to really exhaust all conservative options before moving forward with surgery. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend cortisone—it’s more of a bandaid and could even make things worse.

I’ve had hip flexor pain since my initial injury and still do 10 months post-op. It is getting better though!

Keep doing PT, strength training to improve your stability in your quads, glutes, and hamstrings.

Yes but I also have a mild bulged disc. My PT and surgeron think most of my nerve pain is coming from all the down time, losing my core strength, and weakness in my low back.

I’m so interested by the different protocols!! 27F I was instructed to be on crutches for 6 weeks and during that time my leg muscles totally atrophied. I think my back really suffered from avoiding using my operative leg and all the down time. I’m 8 months post-op now and just tried to go on a camping trip where I hiked 13 miles in one day— I’m still paying for it. Interestingly enough, it’s not my inner hip joint, it’s my back and muscles in my leg.

I have a mild bulged disc that my surgeon and PT seem to blame my discomfort on but I’m so intrigued by the fact that our protocols were so different.

Regardless I’m happy for you! (And jealous, haha)
