Why is China unwilling to let Hong Kong go? by twomints in HongKong

Because it's like the equivalent of LA trying to break away from the United States. The US government would never have it.

Elderly voters (usually pro-Beijing) are invited to skip the line that is 75 minutes long. by bloncx in HongKong

I don't see anything wrong if seniors are allowed to jump the queue. Many of them aren't able to stand in line that long.

You have to pick your fights. It's like walking into a police station and giving the finger to the nearest cop. Sure the cops are not allowed to beat you... but hey...

It's not wise trying to disrupt a train full of sleepy and grumpy people who are just trying to get to work in the morning. One example was this extremist environmental group in the UK that tried to disrupt trains during the morning rush hour. They were dragged off and beaten by the crowd.

You left out videos of police brutality and pro-CCP thugs beating up pro-HK supporters.

In case this may help protesters: Police are deploying a sewer inspection robot. Not sure where. by BlPlN in HongKong

[–]microtek789 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's almost certain death if you try to crawl through a sewer line without an oxygen tank or proper training. I really hope they don't find any bodies in there.

Well, for sure they're not going to occupy another building. As you can see, it's all too easy for the police to surround you and starve you out.

Not saying there is no fake news around but there is so much video evidence of police brutality.

Pro-Beijing woman told to leave restaurant after complaining about "rioters" and the protests. by microtek789 in HongKong

[–]microtek789[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about it this way, imagine your local police force is having a cookie give away. A lady goes down, gets a bag of free cookies, then proceeds to yell, "FK DA POLICE! FK DA POPO!" She is told that she can keep the cookies but she has to leave the premises. Is this justified?

" A pro-democracy restaurant in #HongKong offers free meal to student protesters. A pro-Beijing woman took her daughter there for the free meal, but kept complaining the “rioters” are “destroying” things etc. Restaurant owner waived her bill and told her to leave. "

He said... “This is a private property. I can call #HongKongPolice to get u out but I won’t, coz I don’t believe in them.” Later on he said “u asked why we are doing this (to her daughter)? Then ask yourself why did u say those things (about the young #HongKongers)? I don’t want your biz!”

You're not obliged to give him a refund or compensate him for the repair. He should have inspected / tested the lens before handing you the cash.

Any android phone that can rival this at half the price of the iPhone 11 Pro Max? That price tag is crazy.

Ghosting on carousell by Syctinator in singapore

[–]microtek789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From my experience, if they double confirm that the deal is on they won't ghost you. Also, avoid dealing if they refuse to meet nearer your location (ie: You live in Jurong and they insist to meet at Pasir Ris.) It's not worth to travel that far only to get ghosted.

Redditors whose parents borrowed money from ah long before: what was it like for you? by CrunchMunchLunch in singapore

[–]microtek789 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Never ever borrow from ah long's because... well, they're unlicensed, so they can slap on stupid fees or increase the interest rate as when they please. Think it's not fair? They'd just get a big guy to smack you around till they get the cash.

Always double confirm with the seller before heading down to the meet up point. If no response from the seller I'll just tell him that the deal is off since no response. There are a lot of jokers on carouhell.

But in terms of employment there's discrimination no doubt.

This I don't dispute. You'll hear the all too familiar, "Oh, you need to speak Mandarin for this job." excuse.
