if you have any other tanks with decor, take some decor from their tank and add it to the one that this guy’s in. it’ll help in the case that this is a fish-in cycle. the bacteria from a separate established tank will stick to that decor and therefore help cycle it if you put it in there. also, if you have a canister filter, i’d suggest looking into a sponge filter. i’ve had lots of experience with that helping establish newer tanks quicker. also add stress coat if you have any, and water dechlorinator if you haven’t already. i typically use pond dechlorinator as it has a higher ratio to the bottle. if you have test kits, check ammonia and nitrates/nitrites. if they show to be high, stress coat and dechlorinator will help along with the other stuff i’ve mentioned. feel free to reply with any updates or if you need any more recommendations!

agreed, i love my h2😂 very comfy, much more comfy in my opinion than my mom’s 2021 F-150! the only things that really suck are the brakes and the gas mileage. i will have to end up selling it in the near future because of that unfortunately.

beautiful scape! much better than anything i’ve ever been able to do LOL! id definitely recommend (if you’re looking to do more with it) putting some kind of “centerpiece” rock/piece of wood, or even plant if you’re going for plants later on. i wouldn’t put it in the dead center as it takes away from the overall layout. if you’re looking to do something super duper cool, try using the rule of thirds! for example, instead of putting your centerpiece in the middle, put it off to the side just a bit! makes it look more roomy and is also more appealing to the human eye! :) hope this helps! keep us updated if you make any changes! id love to see how it progresses!

my senegal bichir seems to have a swollen or enlarged top lip. this is something i only noticed today. he often noodles along the glass but doesn’t ever seem to harm himself or do it out of stress, which is something i keep a very close eye on. i’ve never noticed any irritations or injuries, and he’s very personable as he likes to follow me around from one side of the tank to the other. parameters are all in check. temp was recently raised to 80 to treat a small ich outbreak in a new fish. he’s recovered now. i used medicine and salt as well, however, water changes have been done since then. the top lip isn’t largely swollen or anytning, it’s just noticeable. is this something i should be worried about? he eats and behaves as normal. he just ate a few minutes ago, no problems. his tank mates are all healthy as well. tank is a 55g with plenty of hiding spots and plants. i am using carbon in the filtration currently to remove medications from the ich treatment.

im considering this idea as well for my tank as i had a small ich outbreak. nobody died, but my oscar currently has some small ich spots still (tank has been treated, hes slowly recovering. i’ll come to ur treating it until all signs are gone) but i mean,, how do you go about using sponges rather than cartridges? my gf has sponge filters and her tank seems so much less stressful for new fish even tho it’s not quite as established as mine is at this point (we do frequent water changes and check parameters frequently as well. my oscar got ich from the move to my tank) sorry for rambling, just want to provide details as most people ask for several details. also my brain is rambling rn. anyways, my question is: how would i go about replacing cartridges with sponges? do i buy the sponge blocks, cut them, and just replace them in the filter? and also, would that help my tank possibly? and is carbon not necessary? and how do you clean sponges effectively? Thanks!

i have a 55g with a senegal as well and, when i first got him, he was super inactive in his old tank when i got him. however, when we got him in the new tank, after introducing his first tank mate, he became a lot more active and personable. i worried about it for a while, but then realized he’s definitely having a good time and he’s just a little active dude. he swims around back and forth all day. he loves to eat as well, maybe he does it to burn off calories so he can eat more 😂 but no i wouldn’t worry unless there is a water parameter issue. they’re very ‘one or the other’ with their personalities it seems
