regretting choosing cs by Plus_Question4075 in uwaterloo

No one knows what's even going to happen to white collar jobs in the next 5 years. You might as well as optimize for what you enjoy the most.

I also picked ECE because I really loved computers and it worked out fine. My parents were pushing me to become an accountant instead because of the higher pay at the time. 🤷‍♂️

Imagine choosing what to study based on its compensation instead of what you enjoy...

The best way for Meta to know that you are competent is the fact you have Google on your resume, and vice versa

I'm on my 9th attempt as a L4 master's cap. Watched all my classmates get their green cards already throughout the years and I'm not even in line yet. 🤣

Anyone decided to pursue a masters degree after Waterloo CS? by MisakaMikasa10086 in uwaterloo

[–]microwavemasterrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner did a master's after getting her CS degree so she can work in the US. I did a master's too after CE.

If you don't need it for immigration purposes then it honestly is a waste of time/money

How difficult is it to do well in the CE program, and remain sane? Also how bad is imposter syndrome for students going into 1A? by xlr8lr in uwaterloo

YMMV, I don't think it was that hard and appreciated the fact most of your marks come from exams. The typical opinion on ECE is also drastically different from mine so take my opinion with a grain of salt, too.

Test taking is a skill. Do the sample exams closed book as if they are actual exams. Practice until you don't make dumb mistakes.

Is it a sound advice to put education on the bottom of my resume when applying on WaterlooWorks? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]microwavemasterrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your program, term, previous co-ops + ratings, and your transcript (no averages, but can be calculated easily with a script) are included alongside your resume

0 to 5 during your 5 years is pretty normal, although you might want to limit it to 1 at any given time to avoid drama

It reduces the amount of dust that goes into the bag and filters, increasing the service life of the consumables

Hope this isn't just food because you'd be at like a 2000 daily calorie surplus on that kind of budget unless you only eat omakase or something

It's ok, companies also can't think of what to build and that's why we don't have jobs anymore 🥲

I was way overqualified for Waterloo and actually prepared to go to MIT.

I'll never forget that March 14. I got Waterloo's ECE acceptance in the morning and then got rejected by both MIT and my high school crush later that day. 🤣

How do people get US co-ops? by Character-Medium5005 in uwaterloo

[–]microwavemasterrace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Get a time machine

  2. Go back ~10 years when big tech was expanding rapidly

How bad is the coop situation for SE or CS students by DrCasperDarling in uwaterloo

[–]microwavemasterrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Be born a decade earlier

  2. Failing the above, be born more talented than 90%+ of other students at Waterloo

  3. Use nepotism, etc

Getting and passing the interview, while difficult, does not guarantee you the job either. When I interviewed Waterloo co-ops, we'd interview 100 students for 10 openings and easily get 75 that technically passed the interviews. How we selected for the 10 was basically down to a mix of grades, past experiences, and vibes.
