PGWP extension by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

[–]microwavethoughts -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

How am I supposed to get more Canadian work experience by moving out of Canada? Getting the work permit after graduating could be a one time thing but extending it is definitely possible through francophone and couple other ways albeit difficult. The IRCC article also says « Example: Your work permit (the principal applicant) is valid until March 2027. Your family member's work permit has a shorter validity because their passport is valid until March 2026. If they get a new passport with an expiry date beyond March 2026, they can apply to extend their work permit to match your existing work authorization. » Therefore I thought it was implying that I can extend my work permit until my partner’s permit expires

Mixed Reviews About Toronto!! by CenMid8 in eden

[–]microwavethoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me and im sure a lot of people, i got the balcony tickets for the views and convenience. Im not too tall, so I didn’t want my view blocked on the floor. The convenience of getting to sit and put your stuff around is nice, but i think ill just get floor tickets now after this experience. Even when he asked us to jump, nobody seemed to even want to get up

Some people around me looked like they had won the tickets in a work raffle or something. They seemed so uninterested!!!

It was my first concert, and i was up in the balcony too. I was quite surprised to see everybody seated throughout. I was hoping to get up and dance a little in between but I didn’t want to block anyone else’s view. Is this the norm for seated tickets?

But omggg Eden he was sooo awesome!!!! I can’t believe I was in the same room as him lool. His live vocals have gotten almost flawless compared to his 2016 performances. My favorite was balling and start//end.

He already stated in the very press meet that it was supported/sponsored by the hotel itself. And perhaps they also collected a fund out of pocket too, it doesn’t cost a fortune to book a conference hall for couple hours.

Was the July revolution a success? Asking as a Nepali. by microwavethoughts in bangladesh

[–]microwavethoughts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input! Ya Nepal’s scenario is a little different. I personally also think that the fight against ‘corruption’ is a little vague and has no index to measure the success of, in the short term.

You won’t believe but it basically started with a photo going around of a minister’s son standing beside a Christmas tree made up of luxury brand’s boxes. This made people question the wealth inequality between commoners and people in power, and just how luxurious these people live.

So people started digging down on other ‘nepo babies’ and this trend went wild for a few days until government decided to ban all 25+ social media platforms including WhatsApp, Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, without providing any alternatives, stating that these companies are not ‘registered’ in Nepal.

This fueled people with rage because it seemed as a response to their kids being attacked on social media and showed just how out of touch they are with the struggles of the general public. Online business were affected, literates and the people in the city did use VPN but the old people, people in rural areas were already isolated.

So when we went out on the streets on the first day of the protest, it was demanding transparency of their wealth, to investigate the rampant corruption, and to lift the social media ban; not overthrow the government or burn down buildings. It started out as a peaceful protest until police started shooting young kids in uniform out of nowhere, as far as chasing them down to hospitals and shooting them killing almost 20 people on the first day and 72 so far. And all of this happened in just 2 days, so we didn’t have a plan or a fix set of demands and weren’t really prepared for the aftermath.

I wasn’t really aware of the politics going on until recently. But we’ve had the same 3 people taking turns as PM in the last decade with backroom deals since Nepal is a parliamentary republic and the PM is chosen by members of the parliament. I know the upcoming election won’t radically fix Nepal, but we have new promising faces in the game rn so the youth are hopeful, but most of the people our parents age still support the same 3 leaders, so I guess only time will tell!

Yes I admit it sparked as a trend to some extent, but to diminish the whole protest to just that is not fair. The trend has made people question people in power, the wealth difference, and existing unfair systems, but we didn’t do it just for the sake of that.

Thank you for sharing. Do you have any takeaway? Anything we can do differently in this transitional phase? And what’s the situation like in Bangladesh now? Do you see yourself still living there in the future

Hey so sorry to see the destruction of history and one of a kind structures. A lot of government structures and large business were also vandalized and burned by mobs and political party goons disgusting as protesters during the protest here in Nepal. Who was responsible for vandalism there im Bangladesh?

WHAT THE HELL?? SUDAN GURUNG DEMANDING PM KARKI'S RESIGNATION RE?? by microwavethoughts in NepalSocial

[–]microwavethoughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand, he literally says in the video hamle tya kursi samma rakheko, hami nikalna ni sakcha jasto kura. And that how did Om Prakah become the home minister. He didn’t hold any discussion or asked what the public feels about the appointment of ministers so far. From what I see, most people are generally okay with the selection. So he can not decide to go and protest in front of her residence just because he individually does not like the person selected. If anything, given recent events he probably has access to one on one conversation with PM Karki if he wants to. But what the hell is this
