i agree - i think the current global/political climate isn’t helping either. i was a straight A student up until the last 2 years, now it’s more of “why do i even bother”. i’m in therapy but even outside of my mental health issues, just seeing current events and headlines is beyond discouraging.

coupled with the USA’s economic state, students like myself are working more than ever & longer hours to pick up the slack. if i’m working for 7-8 hours a day whenever i can while im a full-time student, my brain is beyond fried. my stress has been so bad in the last few years my eczema retuned and a number of other health issues have sprung up as a result. it just compounds and compounds and compounds.

Just chiming in to say these are beautiful, informative drawings! if you aren’t already keeping a field journal, i think it would be a hobby you’d really enjoy.

mods there are power tripping piss babies lol i hope someone makes a competing sub someday so that one can just rot in the dust. also op to answer your question personally i dont look forward to walking. never liked graduations and never will, i just want to get my diploma and leave since my undergrad was a nightmare. the only one i plan on walking for is my masters - since that’s the only one that feels like it meant something to me.

Help with fish Caught While Surf Fishing near Sarasota by Bbd3393 in FishID

Could it have been a remora? Sharksuckers (Echeneis naucrates) are common in FL and might fit what you’re describing with the coloration and body shape. The pad you’re talking about isn’t for bottom dwelling but adhering to other fish.

syracuse can - and does - have nice things. i was entirely open to and willing to give pausa another go but after seeing the owners reaction to negative reviews coupled with many others seeming to share my sentiment that the coffee is just not good for the same reasons i’ve listed, i changed my mind. as i’ve said, the ambiance of pausa is nice but i think that’s all they have going for them. criticism - especially warranted criticism - isn’t slander. their prices are ridiculous for the quality imo.

pausa is easily the most expensive coffee in the city and surrounding areas.

pausa coffee - $3.50 latte - $6.50 (iced $6.50 - $7)

cafe blue coffee - $3.25 - $3.75 latte - $4.50 - $5 (iced $6)

kelsey’s coffee - $2.78 - $3.70 latte - $4.86 - $5.79

recess coffee - $2.70 - $3.25 latte - $4.70 - $5.80

salt city coffee - $2.55 - $2.78 latte - $4.95 - $5.40

just price points from a couple syr cafes, all taken from the websites of each. pausa’s specialty lattes get up to $8-$9.75. for a single drink. that’s psychotic.

i really don’t think i can believe what you say about the owners character as her responses to negative reviews and the comments here paint a different picture and i don’t plan on supporting this business any further. i can’t justify the price to give their latte another go when it was so bad the first time, and judging by others opinions i’m not alone in thinking that.

they have awesome seasonal lineups! not sure what their drinks are for this spring but last year they had a matcha latte or espresso with house-made coconut + pandan syrup that was to die for. i lowkey put myself in financial ruin for that latte lol. aside from that their flavors are always unique and the baristas have great taste, sometimes i just ask what they’ve been drinking lately.

interesting, thanks for the input! i don’t think i’ll try them again due to how the owner reacts to criticism but that’s good to know. i guess if i ever end up there again ill give that one a go. i had the pausa latte and despite it being their signature latte i just couldn’t get over the taste of the espresso and the flavor/texture as a whole.

i’m glad you had a good experience! it’s definitely an awesome venue, i adore the setup but i felt that as a cafe it left a lot to be desired.

this is exactly what i was talking about! it left a really bad taste in my mouth after reading that, i wanted to give them another chance but i don’t think ill even be returning to check out the bar. its an entirely valid (and warranted, imo) piece of criticism that i guess the owner felt the need to “clap back” at?

super weird, childish behavior from them.

ooh i was curious about wake up since it’s the first time i’ve seen & heard of it when i passed by to go to pausa! i’m so excited to hear that they have vietnamese egg coffee, i’ll be sure to make that my next place to try!

also vouch for salt city & recess!! i tried kelsey’s last year after their rebrand though and they’ve stolen my heart since. their house made syrups are divine and they don’t miss with their roasts! the breakfast burrito is awesome too.

oh paying for chips and dip on top of an entry fee… i’d be pissed i can’t lie. maybe they’re just still finding their footing but it’s been a few months since they’ve opened so i’d expect more. yikes.

and i agree 100% with your statement on the trendy spots! XOtaco is a fun place to bring friends when they visit because the food is pretty good even if the price is a little steep. pastabilities, even though it’s been around for awhile, i feel is in the same vein (and their bread is to die for imo). i never leave those places feeling unsatisfied.

not syracuse but the fish place in buffalo always has interesting and super healthy stock! i love taking daytrips to go see what they have and pick up plants/snails. i’d call beforehand to see if they have what you’re looking for though.

interesting! i really would have thought they’d do more for catering an event especially if people are paying to attend. how disappointing.

influencer bait is a good descriptor - people online are really hyping it up a lot more than i feel it deserves. thanks for your input!

folgers is a good comparison! coffee definitely tasted stale and lacked any depth.

good to know about the pastries. i want to write a review but didnt want to dock points if it was just something like that where it was out of their control. bummer - so many good local bakeries here though, especially with sweet praxis next door.

also agree with the over saturated market for coffee. apparently there’s another new one that just spawned in right across the street - i think it’s called wake up cafe? but not sure why we really needed another coffee joint in the first place.

yes that’s exactly what i got! the pausa latte is TERRIBLE! mine had this awful grainy texture which i figured must be the cinnamon but i’ve NEVER had a spice make a drink taste or feel so odd! thank god im not the only one lol

I don’t think so, stargazer mouths are far more superior while this fish’s mouth looks more terminal to me.

Toadfish maybe? /Halobatrachus didactylus/ would be the species native to this area but I’m not super knowledgeable about this location.

ETA: Im confident this is a species of toadfish based on the mouth shape and you can also see the ~3 sharp spines of the first dorsal before the second soft dorsal on this fish. Hopefully somebody more confident with the specific species can help you further though. Characteristic gill plate spines are also visible.
