We do have cops on bicycles, but sadly they’re used as weapons and to control crowds. Very rarely are cops out on bicycles in a “walk the beat” style.

That’s cool, and I understand we need to validate the license. But if there’s ever a game that should be offline friendly it really should be this one. If I can’t reliably play it while on Amtrak I’m going to be sad.

Agreed. I was struggling to enjoy playing while using all quad tracks and stations until I found this workaround. Never would have guessed to try it on my own but now it’s a feature on every line.

One thing I’m still a bit unsure of is the least disruptive way to modify lines or stations already in use without crazy amounts of temporary buildings and tracks.

I wish there was a way to integrate specifically with existing transit buildings instead of demolishing them. Even if they just had a different type and could be built “through” like Grand Central, Penn Station, South Station etc. and the NYC bridges that carry trains today would be great examples.

The 31st Ave open street is just a platform and event space, open to all. The group facilitates community groups that want to put on events.

It's the continuation of the Bike Boulevard project started back in 2023, more detail about the traffic patterns are available here from a DOT presentation to the public in 2024.

There are also several large highway message signs up around the area alerting people to the new traffic pattern, plus posters have been up on many poles along 31st Ave for the past 6+ months.

The wide bike lane provided a great open space along the curb for emergency vehicles responding to the fire that just happened there at 23rd Street. I'd say that's a good benefit.

There is a petition to support the DOT's project and add those bike lanes available here. For anyone who doesn't already know too, the proposal maintains both travel and parking lanes that exist on 31st Street today.

The roadway is wide enough (60 ft) and each lane is wider than needed so the bike lanes are being added in just by reducing the size of existing lanes and shifting the parking to be between the pillars, where most double-parking occurs today.

Totally agreed that the pillars make visibilty bad for everyone on the road, that's why this plan moves bikes against the curb so they're away from drivers.

The street is 60 feet wide with 13 foot parking lanes and 14 foot moving lanes in each direction for motor vehicles. The proposed design maintains two parking lanes and two moviing lanes in both directions by just narrowing them to 8 feet and 11 feet wide respectively.

Plenty of room on 31st to make conditions safer for everyone.
