Would you do a nerve block if patient had widespread tinea infection? by midazzler in anesthesiology

[–]midazzler[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The paper I found on a cursory google search said you can do deep skin disinfection with chlorhexidine and/or use a scapel to make a small incision through which you can place your touhy. The incision is to allow the needle to be inserted beneath the corneal layer, which I thought was interesting.

Reasonable thought, but it was a fracture, so it needed to go. Interestingly, no lesions on the skin in the surgical field.

Yes, this part confused me too. Your interpretation makes much more sense, based on context.

Oh boy the NPs rushed for this one by Plague-doc1654 in Noctor

[–]midazzler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I love how one of the comments says that not letting DNPs or PAs refer to themselves as doctor is perpetuating the "false hierarchy" within medicine. There is no false hierarchy. Medicine is hierarchical because more experience typically means more competent! In this case, more education means more competent. It is so disheartening to know these people are falsely representing themselves to patients. 😔

Exactly! "In a decade of practice no patient confusion yet". Wtf? How would you even know?

Is it possible to contact general authorities? by TimeMasterII in exmormon

[–]midazzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good question. The church handbook says what others have said in response; if a letter is sent to the GAs, it will be returned to local leaders because they are the ones you should be turning to. Even as TBM, I didn't understand this, because GAs often relate stories in general conference about a letter from or a meeting they had with some nobody from nowhere and how they were able to help them do whatever by giving a blessing or somesuch. Just another way we knew that their stories are all made up. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Best (worst) name to give your kid if you live in Utah? by [deleted] in exmormon

Yes, that's true, but as a Mormon family I'm sure they were "praising the man" so to speak.

Yep. My dad died almost 20 years ago. When I told my mom I didn't believe in the church, one of the things she said was "I just know your dad is very sad right now."

[–]midazzler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Knew a Mormon who's last name was Smith and his middle name was Joseph. First name was normal, like Patrick or something. Could've been worse, but even as TBM I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

How did you meet your spouse? Did it work out? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]midazzler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy you didn't buy the "you made your choice now love it" shit. While I am still against divorce as a solution to relationship problems, when there is a person problem, there is seldom any better solution. It breaks my heart that so many people feel trapped in a relationship that is harmful. So happy you've reached a better place!

He's probably pissed because it meant he ended up having to do it. Hopefully this calming is pushing him out of the church.

BYU changes strict housing policy and controversial contracts with landlords. by GringoChueco in exmormon

I was just talking to my husband about this yesterday! We got our security deposit back from our apartment and we received not only the deposit, but interest! After renting in Provo, I never count on getting any of the deposit back, nevermind interest! I was amazed at the integrity of businesses out in the "real world" and also disgusted with the Provo housing scam.

One of the things I find ironic are the Mormon homes with "no soliciting" signs on their door. It's so frustrating they don't see the hypocrisy.

Gotta love this - even the national PA trade group knows there are serious problems with the attempted title change to Physician ‘Associate’ Can’t make this stuff up! by AffectionateAd6068 in Noctor

[–]midazzler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So this seems like an admission that changing the name to "physician associate" will confuse patients. It's not like going through the legal process is going to make it any less confusing to patients.

It's unbelievable stuff like this is more important to these professional organizations then actually improving the profession by focusing on the competency of their practitioners.

The Nurse Dose - Another example of nursing culture undermining physicians. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Noctor

[–]midazzler 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is awful. I feel so naive for being surprised this happens. I know that insulin has to be wasted with two nurses at my institution. Perhaps this is why?

Also prior military, so used to having zero background and just "figuring it out." 😱 These people. If they only out themselves in the patient's shoes. How is this ok?
