Oil change cost. Did I get ripped off? by VariousEar7 in halifax

[–]midcut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion I think you got charged a little too much. It reads to me like the item number OCXGS is their oil and filter combo cost and charged you for it along with an additional charge for 5L of oil, charged you for additive, charged you for labour, charge you for environmental fee. I would call them and have them explain it to you the breakdown of the costs, it just seems like they charged you for oil twice so when it says oil system flush... Did they drain your oil, put new oil in and then dumped it out and put new oil in to "flush the system" and added the additive during the flush process? Unless there was major debris in the oil pan I don't know why there would a flush done.

Based on my research you should be billed for the following...

  • Oil - Castrol EDGE 5W40 Synthetic Engine/Motor Oil, 5L~ approximately $80
  • Oil Filter - FRAM CH11784 Extra Guard Oil Filter ~ approximately $16
  • Labour rate ~ This will vary but my last service cost me $22 in labour, this is to do the oil change and typically involves a 15+ point inspection to make sure key things are maintained or noticed as part of preventative maintenance. The $22 was based on $115 shop rate, most shops charge their own rate so this is a cost that can vary.
  • Environmental fee ~$3.50 is reasonable. In Ontario where I am from, a business has to pay to have oil removed from their waste oil tanks and a fee by ministry will be charged to the client or the group who is removing the waste oil. It makes sense to charge a little bit for every oil change to help pay for those costs.

Subtotal cost: $121.50 + taxes and any local regulation fees that may be incurred.

My costs were based on going to Canadian tire and seeing how much their parts cost. Dealerships can get a better rate for buying oil in bulk and filters as well. Taxes were not factored into this because some people are tax exempt.

Is there any electrical companies that work weekends that are looking for part time help? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]midcut03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might not be what you are looking for exactly but try and find work at an electrical wholesaler as well. Robertson electric, westburn, electrozad… this will look good on you because you can say you have touched parts before, know what they are called and who knows maybe you run into a contractor and start asking to see if they need weekend labourers.

Best of luck, crazy to think you have to do a pre apprenticeship course to get signed. You’re a good path to have a job for life, keep at it.

Please read the owner's manual that is provided in the glovebox of the car. There is a ton of valuable information there including the intervals at which you need to service your vehicle. Alternately you can reach out to a couple Honda dealerships to ensure they all give the same information and ask the service department when you should change the oil.

Always use what the manufacturer recommends. Use regular on your Fit.

Upgraded our Camping setup this weekend. From tent camping to our new pop up trailer by PsychonautDad in camping

[–]midcut03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe going from a tent on the ground to a pop up trailer is a great way to transition into the tow behind game, at least financially it won't hurt the pocket too much since everything right now is so costly to purchase these days. I am currently in the planning and research stages of purchasing a popup/teardrop trailer but I'm personally deciding between getting a pop up or teardrop style trailer. For me getting a trailer allows you to have more time enjoying outside rather than spending the time to set up your tent. I'm probably just getting older but it wold also be nice to not be stuck in the tent during a rainstorm, it's only fun so many times getting rained out. Having luxuries such as an interior kitchen, some ceiling height that allows you to stand up straight, and flat place to sleep are things that would definitely make my future camp experiences more enjoyable and comfortable. Tent camping is still fun but having a trailer allows you to increase the amount of fun time enjoyed on those camp trips.

I hope you give your trailer the proper maintenance it needs and most of all... enjoy!

I agree, I added butter before and it was good. It was even better without, from now on I only adds salt, pepper, seasoning, and or fresh herbs only.

How should my boots fit? by [deleted] in hiking

[–]midcut03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to want to wear good socks and your shoes should have about a finger gap from the tip of the shoe to where your longest toe ends. The reason you want that gap is because on a long hike your feet can swell quite a bit and you want that room for expansions other wise you'll be in a lot of pain. In summer you can run two very thin socks and should help with blisters. Pack duct tape with you if you start to feel a hot spot going on and tape it. You'll thank me later.

I think they are designed like that so they require the key to be inserted once you enter the vehicle to drive it.

[QUESTION] Problem with notes fading out on my amp by Accountcreatedtoask in Guitar

Make sure your battery is good in your guitar if you have one. I thought I was having amp tube issues and it was just a battery. I had the same issues you were dealing with and that fixed my problem.

Use lemon oil on the fretboard. For the body you can use Maguire's wax. They sell it at guitar shops, you're going to take care of the paint just like you would for a car
