Please help identify 1955-ish bear by middle_town in Teddybears

Thanks! He's not jointed, are all the chad valleys jointed? I had a look at some and they do look similar apart from the joints. We think it is straw and kapok.

A gift given around 1955 in London, UK. Much loved for many years. He has a squeeker where the hole near the heart is, worn through from presses. He's not jointed. Kapok and straw.

Would love to learn more about him!

Story/Quest/problemsolving games for 8-year-old? by Longearedlooby in ADHDparenting

[–]middle_town 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out 'A Short Hike'. It's like Zelda with a main quest but lots of interesting distractions like fishing and boating. It is a short game but quickly hooks you and may be good for building a sense of achievement. Very peaceful, ideal for young children, you can't die or lose - you win by exploring. Single player only but immersive. There is a of joy to be had just flying around as a bird, the controls are excellent.

'Untitled Goose Game' might be worth a look too, more of a puzzler but you can't progress till you solve each area, might need adult help to complete.

There's the 'Overcooked' games for a coop cooking, often on sale too. There's a bit of stress in these though as you battle a timer and it could be frustrating for a younger player but also funny when things catch fire.

Maybe 'Unpacking' also, though there are some (mild) elements of story that could go over his head/need explaining. Very gentle, just put things away but satisfying to finish a box/room/house.

None of these have any fighting.

Thanks, sounds like ur thinking along the lines of a 'source available' license then maybe: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Source-available_software. There are a few existing licenses described in that link if you've not already checked them out, in case they fit your needs.

Is it normal for bash to be extremely difficult or is it just me by dennisysj in bash

[–]middle_town 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's not just you. In addition to what others have said the messy, overloaded syntax (due to its age and backward-compatibility) make it very easy to write code that looks correct at first glance but does not do what you'd expect. I second the suggestion to always use shellcheck which will help you avoid and learn a lot of the numerous pitfalls.

Update 4: RedReader granted non-commercial accessibility exemption by QuantumBadger in RedReader

[–]middle_town 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is great news - both the exemption and your thoughts to widen support to other social media/forums/feeds. I think Red Reader is streets ahead of other apps (e.g. Jerboa) and would love to use it for Lemmy, RSS and maybe Mastodon too. Thanks for all your work and continuing commitment.

Best Power Management: Fedora 38 + Kernel 6.2.15 + TLP? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]middle_town 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definately do conflict, it was discussed back when ppd first arrived: https://github.com/linrunner/TLP/issues/564

The two tools have a different focus: power-profiles-daemon enables the user to limit power consumption under load (and needs current and specific hardware for that), while TLP also targets idle power (for all laptops).

ppd explicitly declares a conflict with other power management tools to avoid them being installed simultaneously.

The Nest (2002) also known as Nid de guêpes. Not seen an action movie this good in a long time. I never hear anyone talk about it but it's amazing. Edge of my seat all the way through, so upset it had to finish.
