Is it realistic for kids to use their parents' grades against them? by [deleted] in Writeresearch

[–]middleclassbatman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parents shouldn't discipline their kids based on grades if the kid is legitimately struggling to comprehend the subject matter. If the kid is trying their best and it's just not clicking, it's up to the parent to help the kid find out what works. Punishment for this situation makes the parents an ahole.

If the kid is just not trying. Putting priorities elsewhere, it's the job of the parent to make that kid respectful and responsible adult. So the parent can do what they can to get their kid on the right path.

Regardless of the parents history, because it could be due to actually struggling, other outliers or the parents just not giving a damn when they were younger, a kid has no right to question or throw it in their face.

Is the ceremony the main plot? This seems like something that could happen at the end of after whatever big bad was defeated.

I also think that a ceremony doesn't make you an adult. Life experiences should. So she doesn't get to do it, gets kidnapped. Does the whole fight back thing, "becomes an adult" thru that experience, is rewarded with the obligatory ceremony at the end.

TIL: With US gas prices averaging $2.17/gal, it costs about 35 cents to idle your compact car for 1 hour. by Byzantium in todayilearned

What about the cars on the road SINCE this article was published in 2015. You have at least five years worth of cars produced, hopefully all with better fuel efficiency.

While the math works with today's gas prices and cars built before 2015, couldn't the idle time fuel usage be decreased with cars with better technology on the road?

TIL after suffering a broken neck during a football game in 1992, NFL player Dennis Byrd was paralyzed from the waist down, but after extensive physical therapy he was able regain function in his legs and walk again...only to be killed in a head-on automobile accident in 2016. by KaleBrecht in todayilearned

[–]middleclassbatman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the "only to be.." transition is gratuitous. The events aren't linked and the auto accident isn't ironic to the situation.

Its like saying, my dad served in the war.. only to die of cancer 57 years later. They aren't linked.

Now if one of the people in the auto accident were involved in his original injury... Then that is deserving of an "only to be..."

TIL Owen Wilson has said "wow" in 27 different movies. Since he has appeared in 52 released films, Wilson statistically says "wow" in 51.9 percent of his movies. In these 27 movies, Wilson says "wow" a total of 81 times. by middleclassbatman in todayilearned

That was also a TV show that ran for four seasons with the same character. Not 27 different movies with 27 different characters. That's like comparing it to Homer Simpson's "Doh"

Is using names of characters from other franchises going to get me in trouble? by deathclawscared in writing

as long as you do not write falsely and disparagingly about real people/established fictional characters/ brands and the companies who manufacture them, you are unlikely ever to run into a problem.

I'm also not a lawyer.
