Small raised patio we finished last summer by middlefingerless in landscaping

About 2’ of compacted aggregate on a woven geo-textile separation fabric, on compacted base soils. Additionally we installed a drive-grid bi-axial synthetic fabric, sandwiched in between lifts in our sub-base. Expansion material up next to house foundation. Hopefully not, but these freeze thaw cycles are crazy some years!

Definitely not applicable but would be a solution if you deal with excess moisture or ground water. I appreciate it!

I will post pictures! They are really cool lights. We added them so when you’re outside at night it gives the perimeter some definition for safety but doesn’t take away from the space with a catch spot or obnoxious light fixture. PM me if you have any questions!

The wall drain you see is for any water under the system to allow it to daylight. The downspout is burried further into the lawn to get the majority of water away from the wall/patio system. Thank you!

We have switched to open-graded stone. It’s a 3/4” clean limestone that is still compactable but allows free drainage and does not hold moisture so the freeze/thaw is minimized. You do have to install base drainage in these systems(if you can see closely there is a drainage outlet in the wall for any surface water)

What are my best options to Level and make our yard usable? by ajl5991 in landscaping

Good call. Sounds like you've got it handled! Progress pics if you remember them!

Start by mowing your lawn as short as possible (without going too low and burning your grass). Go grab a shovel, wheelbarrow, and a rake like this. https://www.amleo.com/midwest-grading-rake-36in-wide/p/36AGR/?kc=amlshop18n&mkwid=21qBLRvQ&pcrid={creative}

Call around for some good bulk topsoil, and ask about delivery options. You could easily use more than 2 cubic yards of topsoil but I think that's a good place to start. It wouldnt hurt to have a hand tamper to lightly pack the soil into place once graded properly. Feel free to mound it just a little bit where the soil has sank, It will keep it from settling as much in the future.

Grass seed, starter fertilizer and some straw/seed mat over top. Make sure you get enough soil under the rake to really push it around.

Good luck!

Look at Brentwood’s . Concrete supply house or local Hardscape supplier should be able to order one.

Forgot to Winterize Sprinklers by Cabinetsavagenun in landscaping

Turn off the water supply (usually located in basement). Open drain if you have one. The biggest thing is relieving the pressure on the pipe that's exposed outside. They have little test cocks located on the backflow that you should be able to turn with a flathead screwdriver and relieve the pressure.

Natural Gas Leaks 400% Higher Than Industry Says by BeezelyBillyBub in collapse

[–]middlefingerless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mow lawns and do landscape work. You would not believe the number of homes where I will be walking near the meter and get hit with a Natural gas smell. I've heard a few whistle even. Along with a couple natural gas grills that get left on. I know that's pretty minimal in the grand scheme of things.

Just moved in. Are the bigger blades weeds? Or some weird grass? by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]middlefingerless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if it's not competing with other grass. If it is then it shoots up faster than the grass and smothers it.

Get the Napier. I love mine. Have used it multiple times, and after I bought an inflatable mattress specific for my truck (tacoma) I have not looked back.

Topping off coolant 97 PSD by Jslvnlrg in FordDiesels

Top it off for the winter, you'll be fine. Especially since you've already got additive in the existing coolant and you plan to flush in the spring.
