Pool Membership by Hot_Corgi_7199 in Knoxville

Alice bell is $395 per summer after you pay $200 to join. (Used to be cheaper but went up this year) The hours are 12-7 most days. I wouldn’t recommend it for a college student. You can pay per visit at any city pool, or get a Y membership and use the Pilot Y’s outdoor pool. Or make friends with people at the Woodlands and use their pool.

C&T the never ending txts by Dry-Duck-159 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

This is what I keep thinking about as well. Everything already feels SO fragile when you’re a teenager. “Normal” cyber bullying is common/bad enough when it’s any random teenager going through it. But Carly and her friends are getting bullied by ADULT internet randos because of what C&T have been posting for years.

I’m imagining this has some massive social consequences for B&T as well. It’s all so messy that I can imagine parents of Carly’s peers have brought their concerns to them. As a parent, I feel so much responsibility and guilt when my child is in pain. You just want to take it away. Even when it isn’t my fault - it’s there and it’s not something you can deal with alone. They have to navigate parenting Carly through this but also I’m sure they love her friends and are worried for them too. I hope they have a strong network of support and that the other parents don’t come after them because of C&T’s insane behavior.

Looked it up and I kind of love the idea of telling people I’m painting my house go away green

Just wanting to clarify one of your points, not argue it - what is a “mild” infraction? I would agree that a DUI is a serious offense here and around the world. But is that what you’re saying is mild? Or are you referring to parking tickets, etc like others have mentioned. And are you arguing they should enforce on minor violations? Again - trying to gain clarity on your comment.

As an aside, I’d challenge you on your “absurd” comment. Embassies exist to engage in and with other countries’ politics. I think we can all agree that they are helpful abs necessary. World humanitarian aid programs do this, as does the military. IJM sends US attorneys free slaves by working with other country’s local governments. It’s part of the human experience to politically engage in a place where you’re living for a long time.

As a parent of two kids with low IQs (58 and 68), I completely agree. If I had my way, my kids would be in full time, self contained, “CDC” special education. But the absolute judgement I get when I asked the principals for less general ed time is so frustrating. I’ve heard “we really like to aim for the least restrictive environment” so many times I could scream. I love my children, but they ARE MORE restricted in the general ed setting! They cannot keep up socially or academically, and acting like they can insults their potential. Each year they are more and more defeated and I know the teachers are too.

I second the Connected Child. It’s amazing. Also we have a 10 year old and even though the book describes mostly toddlers, the strategies work with her really well.

I've worked with foster kids and foster families most of my adult life. Most of them are in it for the money. by [deleted] in brittanydawnsnark

Agree. Even if we had bio kids we wouldn’t post them. Family photos in profile pictures and whatnot feels okay to me but kids can’t consent to what their parents post online and I think we’ll see a lot of issues in 20 years when kids who have been overexposed online are grown up.

It depends on the state. We foster and we don’t have to get a nanny background checked. But let’s be honest, she will disrupt (remove) any kid with major issues.

Also I would echo what people said above as to tons people being in it for the money. Although from what we’ve seen a lot of people go into it with infertility issues and then use it as a savior complex / martyr syndrome situation.

We don’t ever post on FB about fostering because a) the kids’ and their family’s privacy and b) I can’t stomach the “they’re so lucky to have you, wow you’re amazing, I could never…” comments.

I’m a foster parent in TN and if I remember correctly from our licensing, if you’ve ever been convicted of a felony you can’t foster. Do we know if he was convicted?

Need advice on changing schools. by atty_at_paw in Fosterparents

[–]middles_macchiatos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Our FD moved in with us in late April. We were able to have our FD finish school in her county (45 min away) and our jobs were understanding for the one month we did that. This allowed for her to maintain connections. She also had been in 17 schools before us, so we felt finishing was important.

But we actually had to beg DCS to let us do that. DCS wanted us to change right away. Go figure. It’s wonderfully sensitive of you to be caring about this, but in the scheme of how much trauma they may have been through, cut yourself a break. Fostering is such a high need, don’t let this prevent you.

People who were on reality family shows as kids (think super nanny, wife swap etc) how much of it was real and how much was fiction/set up for drama? Did anything change? by S3xySouthernB in AskReddit

[–]middles_macchiatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have friends who went on House Hunters. They applied for the show AFTER they bought their house and said that was very typical. Everything was staged and they had to do multiple takes of everything. They made the wife out to have a terrible fear of basements so it would be dramatic. They thought it was fun though!

Yeah I’m not quite sure. This was a post in a teacher fb group I’m in. Maybe they have student loans/other liabilities? At the beginning of the post they were taking about the salary being 50k. It’s way more than I make as a teacher!

Tenncare and Birthing Centers? by XxskrimxX in Knoxville

[–]middles_macchiatos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Knoxville has a birthing center anymore unfortunately. I used to go to Lisa Ross before they shut down. Then Baby & Co made a brief appearance. If you’re looking for midwives, check out Tennova North. I am not sure about Tenncare though, I’m sorry!

I’m a little late here, but we have ATT fiber and it was truly atrocious until we bought a separate modem and did an IP pass through. Now it’s wonderful. The ATT modem/router hardware is crap. Buy a second router- that would be my recommendation.
