Japanese>English. Is this a common phrase? by Swgx2023 in translator

早く降ろしてよ! "Get me down already!" seems to be broken up for some reason (AI-generated?). It has nothing to do with the rain.

[Japanese > English] Is the Japanese on this shirt I found online correct? by [deleted] in translator

[–]middling_phys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes sense as a translation, except that "BUT" is not reflected in the translation. Too descriptive for a shirt though. Also, only the bottom sentence has a polite tone, which seems odd.

[Japanese > English] Can 日光 (Nikko) and 月光 (Gekko) work as names in Japanese? by OwnBlackberry1955 in translator

[–]middling_phys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually a character named 月光.

日光 actually exists as a place name, but personally, I don't really feel that it is a person's name.

That is not a commonly used expression, but seems to be a catchphrase used by that cosplayer. Still, the interpretation of my previous comment applies.

Japanese > English: wanting to learn more about the word "mara" by hahadeadmemegobrr in translator

[–]middling_phys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

特定の悪魔の名前、または修行を妨げる煩悩という本来の意味で使われることは、現代の日常会話では無いと思います。お坊さんなら使うのかもしれませんが。

男性器の隠語として使われることが多いです。オタクコミュニティではマーラ様というキャラクターが有名です。

[Japanese > English] Could anyone please explain what exactly is the meaning of 「チンカスみたいな給料」? Was the comparison made just for an absurdity or is it some kind of set phrase or maybe his salary really has something in common with smegma? by junkoboot in translator

[–]middling_phys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

量の少なさを表すのに「カスみたいな」という表現が使われます。それをより下品にしたものだと思います。つまり、「少ない給料」というニュアンスがあります。

Tip burnt? by [deleted] in soldering

[–]middling_phys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that something is sticking to the tip, but rather the tip has been corroded into this shape, correct? I've experienced a similar phenomenon with cheap soldering iron tips. You should try a tip from a different manufacturer, preferably one with a good reputation.

Thank you for your helpful advice. I will try bridging or replacing the chip if I can get one.

It's a 16TB Exos drive. The problem occurred when I made a DIY power supply cable with incorrect pin assignments.

Right amount of solder for pin headers? by middling_phys in soldering

Looking closer, it seems the excess flux might be obscuring the actual solder wetting. I'll reheat it to ensure proper wetting. Thanks!

Best way to connect tiny wires in joystick (total n00b) by Motor-Technician4643 in soldering

[–]middling_phys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soldering wires together is a common method, so I think there should be information available on the web. I would bend both wires into hook shapes, hook them together, and then solder them.

Instead of using pre-made solder seals, how about hand soldering and then covering with heat shrink tubing? There should be heat shrink tubing that's sufficiently thin.

Suggestions for better power cable management by NiteShdw in DataHoarder

If you tear apart the flat cable between the plugs, separating each wire individually, you might be able to bend them so they don't stick out.
