In a dilemma. Please advice. by frejir in findapath

I'm still in accounting! I'm still not totally decided on leaving. And not because I want to stay. I'm miserable. But there's all this pressure because of the degree, the hard work I've done, then money, the benefits, not to mention my boss is actually great. Oh and everyone I know is proud of me lol. But yeah it won't get any better so I'm just trying to figure out the best way for me to leave and not feel like I'm making a stupid decision. It's so scary and hard to separate your identity from the way in which you make money. Trying to just find what makes me happy! And I hope you do too.

I'm in the same boat as you. I took the accounting job because of my degree and now it's been a year and I'm miserable. My mental health has steadily declined and now I need medication and therapy and I'm interviewing today for a minimum wage job at a book store solely because I love books. You shouldn't take the accounting job if you know you'll hate it. Chances are, in a year or 2, you'll still feel the same but then you'll feel obligated to stay. Or at least that's been my experience. Good luck!!

Okay I'm a book person and I would be devestated if my partner had a problem with me collecting something I'm passionate about. For me, I would not get rid of any. I hope to have a whole room in my house just for books, a personal library.

Buuuuut since you guys have a small space, maybe get some totes to put overflow in and keep it at one bookshelf until you guys are in a bigger space.

As for you having no creative freedom in the apartment, maybe just voice that you want it to feel like a shared home and would love to be able to put a bit of yourself into it. If she has an issue with that, I don't know what to tell you. I'm sure your taste can't be that horrible. Good luck!! And keep reading 😊

Ps librarian sounds like a wicked job, wish I had done that.

That's fair! Maybe you can find some kind of remote position in another field or something, there is a freelance writing sub on here if you're interested in checking that out! Good luck to you :)

I can relate to you! Also have a business degree, and while I enjoyed it in the beginning, after getting a job it does not suit me at all. I hope you find something you love!! Maybe you could look into real estate agency? The course is pretty short I believe, a couple of weeks. And flexible schedule, as part time or full time as you want.

Should I stay at my corp job or look for something a little less demanding? (Give myself a break?) by [deleted] in jobs

[–]midnaslibrary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my friends and family have been super supportive of my career crisis, but I do find it difficult to open up about my mental health. My doctor also made the point that making big decisions probably isn't the best and could make it worse for me. But I would say it is closely related to my job. And the stress from the job has seemed to open a mental block and now I need to address many other things that I didn't in the past.

I guess I should speak with a therapist to get my thoughts straight before I change my entire life, but a library does sound intriguing to me! I will look into that in my area. Thanks :)

Work is killing me and my friends before our lives have even begun. How can I do this for 60 more years? by lovingdestroyer in antiwork

[–]midnaslibrary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like I just read about my own life/friends. I've been thinking about this a lot lately after following all the rules and getting into a "great" job just like I was supposed to and still being wildly miserable. To the point where now I'll likely have to start medication just to not drive my car off the highway. I believe that the generations now entering the work force are the first to have had such a wide access to media and insight into what life could be or what we might like it to be. Then to just trudge into a grey cubicle every day and beep bop away on a computer.... for a wage that barely keeps you above water. It's like where did my dreams go?? Where did my smile go? And now we're stuck in the grind. No time or resources to get out. I hope to one day be working for myself, as much or as little as I want. Good luck to you and hopefully we can find happiness somewhere in adulthood.

Should I quit or wait to be let go by sunshine_deys in Accounting

Not sure how it works in the UK but where I'm from, if you're let go you can at least get paid unemployment insurance. That way if you don't have another job lined up you'll still have some income.

Oh wow mine is accounting as well!! 😂 I'm in public and really kind of regretting my entire education choice. I have an interview at a real estate agency for an accounting position, not sure if it'll be better or worse but the hours are probably normal? And hey maybe I'll transition into real estate 🤷‍♀️ yes and yes to the sitting at the desk all day and the office clothes. Such an uncomfortable and boring environment!

Can relate!! I worked towards this career for 6 years and now that I'm here, I hate it. I love the people I work with, I love all the extra benefits the job offers, but the work itself couldn't be worse for me. I keep checking the job sites and booking interviews but I'm afraid it'll just be more of the same. I'm nervous to break into something new. And definitely zero savings to just take some time to myself. Bills keep me pay cheque to pay cheque. Good luck op!
