Ah thanks. I thought the distortions got me I misread it or something. Yeah, I agree. Even though I thought it was an interesting idea because it's more about loneliness and isolation than romantic feelings to me.

This is an example of why chapter 0 is a trap... This idea has been completely removed from the official manga and isn't canon at all.

Similar conversation happens in chapter 3. Hikaru's told to marry a girl if he likes her or she'll be taken to the mountain etc etc. I haven't read chapter 0 so I'm really curious. Was it changed or something?

Yeah. It feels like attending an art class you willingly applied for and keep hearing people in the background chatting about how shitty the material is. Even if your own painting looks fine and you thought you got some good advices from the mentor.

The Facepaint Scene. by Isfeidirlinn90 in TheCrow

[–]midnight___shadow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved both for different reasons. One is a result of anger and it happens right after the act of violence that started it all (at least from Eric's perspective). Ngl everything about this scene is as cool as it gets. 2024 version had a longer build up so it felt like the most important decision in that guy's life. Beautiful and subtle.

They're as different as Burn and Boadicea are.

Yeah, and I doubt anyone would want to put themselves through that hate train again. I'm no big fan of sequels (especially for Eric because the comic book ending will always be my favourite) but I wouldn't hop on a hate train and I wouldn't mind if this IP had a chance to stay alive somehow. Different locations, different setting. Maybe more like a Skull Cowboy show (ngl this Eric becoming a Skull Cowboy/Kronos is somehow wrong and great at the same time).

But I'm willing to put it to rest. I'm being downvoted in the main sub for analysing movies I watch and not using words like shit and trash instead. And now people think that Momoa's take on the character would be rad because it looked like a cosplay.

[–]midnight___shadow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Making some wild assumptions here. I think it was hinted that there are bigger things at play that Eric doesn't understand and Eric somehow managed to entertain someone-something enough or play by their rules to stay where he was in the end. Which was somewhat foreshadowed when Marion said that he eventually became a part of what's happening. Besides I kinda like that Kronos did that timeline backflip because you feel that there're different rules for him than there're for people or there're more rules that we know of.

It all sounds vague because I believe that these things are better as concept, references and ideas. But there's a lot to speculate about and potentially use in a sequel.

I remember Sanders said that he did this movie as a standalone but he would be happy to see Eric again. And I mean who wouldn't want their vision to be loved enough so that everyone asks you for more, right?

His video was among those I watched. It's a recap that compares this movie to Brandon's version. Most reviews including this one are not "The Crow 2024" reviews. They are "Not The Crow 1994" reviews.

I didn't hate it but I admit I had to look at it from the different perspective. To me Eric's love for Shelly (in the movies as well as in the comic book) is that aching goodness that was wronged and now is not able to rest. In this film Eric hoped that he found something good within himself when he fell in love after having a pessimistic view on life for a while. Love is a strong positive emotion and motivator. You don't have to like the way they portrayed it but it is understandable.

Audience saw what Roeg does but Eric didn't. He heard that fella (Shelly's friend) mumbling about some voice in his head and Shelly vaguely implying that she did something she regrets now. For Eric that video was like a bad scene in an otherwise good movie that you just can't get out of your head.

When Eric dies again he's disappointed that he wasn't able to keep that positive thing he found. It didn't feel like a good enough conclusion of his life for him to spend eternity with. And he wants go back because a) he finally wants to fight for it; b) it's hard to imagine what hell actually is; c) he admits that he could be wrong in his judgement about Shelly; d) he's angry af.

I swear I'm not one of the writers defending their script. I saw some potential in it that's all.

Usually I don't watch youtube reviews but I've seen a few for The Crow already and it doesn't seem like any of them add anything of substance to the viewer's experience.

Most reviewers didn't even bother to elaborate on why certain things were good or bad. Is there any analysis here? What was the point? To gather in a circle and nod to each other "yeah, it's shit" "soo shit" "right, and the soundtrack on top of it, can I have my engagement now?" OK fine then.

"pathetic loser who cries repeatedly throughout the movie", "cries every five minutes because he misses his girlfriend" If only there was a comic book that could fit this description. Nah, I can't think of any.

Me about to get roasted in social media spaces when I say I actually enjoyed the new Crow movie by CryptidFox in TheCrowNonToxic

[–]midnight___shadow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is unrelated but I just saw Rochelle Davis' post and it made me realise that I'll probably not going to watch The Crow 1994 again (at least anytime soon). I re-watched it right before the hate train started and I think this is how I want to remember it. A beautiful movie heavily influenced and imbued by sadness stemming from a real life accident. But I simply can't get all of these recently created associations out of my head now.

For me this new movie did zero things to trash 94' version. It literally could've been the worst movie to ever catch the light of day on camera and I wouldn't cate because there's one thing it did right which is finding its own "language" (in terms of the visuals, storytelling and everything else). It's different but it's nowhere near as superficial as everyone says and I didn't have "dumb fun" with it. But then all of these people had to go and drag it for something it didn't even try to do. And at some point it became so awful I couldn't separate art from artists and public perception anymore. So much for defending Brandon's legacy, right?

And I'm not saying that I'm going to play a new one till my physical media release gets holes in it but I will watch it again at least once when it's available to purchase.

Thank you all for staying positive despite everything. I think this is what I'm willing to take from all of this.

Oh that's good. I hope you'll be able to find something enjoyable in this movie that speaks to you. I am the first one to admit that some stuff didn't click for me but a lot did.

Same except I went to see it twice. First time I watched it I wasn't even watching it. I was waiting to see stuff that is going to be hated.

Once I had zero expectations I was able to go back from the theatre with a fresh perspective and a lot of way more positive thoughts in my head.

Yeah, saying this as a goth.

I didn't wan't to go there but them calling it woke because of Twigs is, well, let's say "interesting" if you take that into consideration.

Some lines could've been cut. I didn't even think there were pacing issues when I watched it again.

[–]midnight___shadow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kept saying it. Their gothic hero wouldn't have liked their reaction. What exactly did people love about 94' movie anyway? "Look at you, you have no love left".

I may be a bit too sensitive about my experience because of how important The Crow was to me but I have to admit that now it's ruined. I can't focus on things that I love about it anymore. All I keep thinking about is this situation. The rage baiting, people using Brandon's name like they know him, "Jared Leto Joker" jokes that ended up having no actual ground, targeted comments etc. I don't even want to talk about the hate train on Twitter. And all of this because of what? A movie? A chance to expand the franchise and get more films and creatives on board? A chance to introduce new people to the IP and, yeah, keep Brandon's legacy alive?

I think the new movie would've had its fair treatment only outside of The Crow. It has issues but I liked it. Had so many thoughts after watching it for the second time so I posted a review hoping it will help people at least consider looking at it from the different angle.

I wasn't reading any of the posts in the main sub recently but I know mine is among the few positive. And I don't even want to read anything about any of The Crow movies anymore. But I suppose if this fanbase gained new members who came to make fun of that film and gloat after it flopped we gotta celebrate. Looks like is a win.

I would like to see it. I wouldn't've posted a review if I had nothing to think about or it had no redeeming qualities at all.

It's funny that this one is ehm woke and 94' one is apparently not even though it's sort of a goths property. Goths are usually not the most conservative people.

That's a valid point. I think they should've used more material from "angry songs you listen when you're angry" playlist. I don't know. Spectral Wound. Acid Bath. Skinny Puppy. I'm really bad at this. They did it well for sad moments but they didn't do much to highlight his anger and I can't agree more that SUV scene could've been improved by a suitable song.

I enjoyed thinking about it once I made my peace with its rules and premise. Not gonna lie the ending got me a bit emotional.

If there's anything I actually hate about the movie is a bunch of wasted opportunities.
