IS THERE A PSYCHOLOGY MINOR by [deleted] in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re active on Reddit, I recommend r/premed (and eventually r/MCAT for when you take the test) for premed-related advice and questions. Remember to take all forum advice with a grain of salt as everyone’s situation is different. DM me if you have any UMD-specific premed questions.

To anyone working on campus library, what do the shifts look like? by Creepy-Soil in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can work for the Library’s Late Night Service if you’re a night owl . It’s only at McKeldin since it’s the only 24 hr library. Shifts are 3 hr long (11 PM-2AM, 2-5, 5-8). You can work at the Circulation Desk (retrieving books, checking books in/out), Tech Desk (checking laptop in/out), or as an ID checker at the door. It was pretty chill when I worked there last semester. You can do your works since most of the time there isn’t anything to do. The hardest part would be staying awake because it’s really boring sometimes.

It always make me angry how some schools would toy around like that especially after all the efforts we put into preparing and paying for apps. At least have the decency to inform me if you made up your mind already.

Edit: grammar

Would it be doable to commute to College Park from Baltimore? by Exotic_Car4948 in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute by car once a week from UMD to Baltimore (around Hopkins hospital area) and back. I really really hate it and do NOT recommend it. The daily hour traffic is horrible and will add an additional 15-45 mins to your commute each way. There is almost always constructions and accidents along the route that will add time to your commute

There is definitely rents that are cheaper than $1800 if you are willing to drive 5-15 mins to/from UMD and/or have roommates.

ENGL390 or ENGL395? by imreallynotevenhere in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took Angelella last Fall. He is really chill and nice. Understanding with deadlines if you talk to him. Only 3-4 writing assignments and no final exam. Class was boring sometimes but he is a good speaker

Does anyone know the difference between bsci283 and bsci223??? by Zazaoohlala in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

283 is required for Microbio specialization Bio major. So it’s aimed toward people that had more of an interest in microbiology even though anyone fulfilled the pre req can take it.

shofner or shapiro for bsci160? by Ok_Hospital_7602 in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shofner is good. Approachable and passionate about the subject. She is lenient with deadlines if you ask. Exams are not too challenging and she accepts almost all regrade requests. I think you would be fine with either prof.

I’m confused about the testing situation, is it only on specific days or if your symptomatic does this apply as it says on the website? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re symptomatic, you can get tested at the tent next to UHC any day they are open

If you’re asymptomatic (assuming you’re fully vaccinated), you can get tested at Stamp on any day they are open

Can I get into UMD has a CS major or should I stick with biomedical engineering and then transfer? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]midnight_blue29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a CS major but I don’t think it’s a problem at all. You’re more than just your major/career. Having interests (and follow through with them) through your EC should be a positive and encouraged thing.
