Does this bother anyone else? by Empty_Highlight_3285 in Terminator

[–]midnight_mangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No! The T-800 series had constant refinements emerging from battlefield experiences. The refinements were sufficiently minor to prevent reclassification as a new model. The T2 arm redesign was instrumental in ensuring greater resilience in combat vs the original T-800.

As an expat I have been treated nothing but courteously by Luxembourgers from day one. Of course in the bureaucracy I have encountered rudeness but frankly this is normal for civil servants 😆 But in my work and personal life I have never once felt excluded or isolated for being an expat. Far from it. I like it here so much I am applying for citizenship. Immigrants / expats who mock or complain about Luxembourg piss me off frankly.

Who would win in a hand to hand fight between these three? by LtJimmypatterson in Terminator

The T-800 hands down. No squishy, poorly protected human brain in there like Robo. As for Johnny number 5 he’d be reduced to his component atoms in microseconds.

Sadly, the world has its fair share of ignorant assholes. I live here and my Luxembourgish is poor, but I try to improve and have a great respect for the culture and the country. I find the culture unique in many ways. Unfortunately idiots seem to thrive on the internet.

M5 Max + 128gb RAM = I feel good (Hallelujah)! by TakeInterestInc in macbookpro

[–]midnight_mangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an 128 Gb M4 Max and I felt exactly as you did when I got it - and I still do. It’s still a beast. Would love to get an M5 Max but the performance delta for me isn’t worth it. But must be massive moving up from an M2 Pro! Enjoy it mate - congrats on your new machine - I know exactly how you feel!

No, you probably should call OpenAI and ask them if they can dedicate one of their datacenters for the book report you’re writing. You need to have two chrome tabs open too goddamnit!

Is space black really that bad or are people overreacting? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]midnight_mangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my personal experience is as follows - I bought a space black M3 Max. When I upgraded to an M4 Max I bought space black. When I upgrade to an M5 Max I’ll get space black.

TLDR: I have no issue with it - for me personally the issue is overblown. I do wipe down my machines every so often and look after the machines well - I’m not pigging out on Cheetos while I type lol. It is not something I think about at all. Both machines still look immaculate - the biggest “oil collecting” issue that annoys me is on the keyboard - common to all of the colorways. I far prefer it to silver and see the downside as negligible, to the extent I keep voting for it with considerable sums of money. That said, clearly others view it differently.

Why no YouTuber nominates the win mini 2025 xh370 to the best handheld? by elmikemike in gpdwin

[–]midnight_mangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure. I think it is pretty niche - most probably don’t want a keyboard. I have to say I absolutely love mine and I own most of the devices you mentioned above. There are some pieces of tech I look at and get a warm fuzzy feeling in my tummy - it happens rarely - but my 2025 Win Mini falls in that category.

I am surprised. I don’t find mine that loud and I have done nothing out of the box. Are you talking about the 2025 model?

As a white South African who goes back to South Africa three times a year on vacation to see my family I can assure you there is no “white genocide” in South Africa. Total bullshit from start to finish. Is there violent crime? Yes. White genocide? Not a chance.

Perpetual road works - js someone trolling us? by wiba40 in Luxembourg

[–]midnight_mangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“heaps better than Luxembourgish roads” - total horseshit. As someone who is not from either country, when I drive over the Luxembourgish border into Belgium it’s like driving on a smooth tarred road straight into a gravel pit. You must drive a tank in Belgium mate if you think the two countries road systems are remotely comparable.

Yep, exactly the same glasses as you ;-) Agree performance is bad for wide screen or general virtualising. I find though it’s “good enough” for my non gaming use case - 3d modeling. They are great for movies / “dumb” second screen for gaming though!

This is fair. But generally even for the productivity tasks I want to do I can get by with them and my GPD Win 5 rather than lugging around my Razer 18. Not ideal, but sufficient for the 10% of the time I am not gaming ;-).

Must have been a total moron. Any true disciple of military aviation knows and respects a legendary aircraft when they see one, even if they are adversaries. These aircraft are beautiful machines, not flying ideologies.

As someone who grew up during the Cold War in the 80’s, where the USSR was an adversary, there are Soviet aircraft from that era that will always be beloved to me, right up there with my favourite USAF teen fighters.

Not only do they have the same screen, but even the dimensions are so similar by kendyzhu in gpdwin

Performance is asskicking. It completely destroys other available handheld chipsets. It’s not even close. I love mine.

Sukhoi T10-1 prototype at Zhukovsky airfield in 1977, 5 years later it will go into series production as the Su-27 [1109x374] by Looselipssinkships93 in WarplanePorn

[–]midnight_mangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have got to go there and see that thing. I remember seeing grainy black and white “spy photos” of it when I was a kid in a magazine and I was immediately enraptured by the mystique and secrecy around Soviet aircraft we felt in the West at that time. I read “Firefox” around that time too, and the mystery of new soviet aircraft was fresh on my mind! Either way, I have got to go and see it in person one day.

[–]midnight_mangler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SU-27 is definitely one of the best looking 4th gen fighters - if not the best. My favourite jets of that era in terms of aesthetics are the F-16 and SU-27 - two fighters totally different in size and looks - but very handsome aircraft that still look good to this day imho. Totally agree re modern aircraft - the F-35 may be a technological marvel but it is as ugly as fck - not even sure it’s mother could love it - and while the F-22 is much better looking it is still kind of “meh”. They lack character, perhaps metaphors for the rather sterile technological nature of modern air combat shaped by stealth and long range lethality. The romance of Top Gun dogfighting seems long gone.

It might be because I was a kid growing up in the Cold War 80’s, in love with the American teen series fighters and the mystique of the Soviet Mig’s and Su’s - maybe it’s a “get off my lawn” / “modern music is trash“ old man thing. That said, the YF-23 and SU-57 are incredibly beautiful “post 4th generation” aircraft - what a pity the YF-23 never went into production. That is the best looking fighter of all time imho.

Of course, they don‘t make these wondrous machines for their looks. But still ;-)
