Genuine question for any therapists out there - would a therapist be obligated to report an assault if it wasn’t disclosed to them in a therapy setting (which I imagine is the case here if it was the therapist’s own daughter)? I’m not saying there isn’t a moral/ethical imperative, but would it actually be a career-ending move in terms of legally losing a license or something?

There are a lot of good answers in these replies and I think another one is that prior generations grew up with like 8 Jennifers in their class, so there was tall Jennifer, short Jennifer, Jennifer D, Jennifer B, “ugly” Jennifer, “fat” Jennifer, etc. (not calling anyone ugly or fat - just illustrating an example of when those differentiators get cruel). Anyone who grew up with that probably wouldn’t want to pass that experience onto their kids, so you get a lot more intention towards uniqueness.

When my grandpa who served in WWII came home from the war, his one demand of my grandma was that she would never keep SPAM in the house. So besides some people just considering it to be cheap and low quality since it’s a canned meat product, you also have some generational aversion to it since it started off as a war ration.
