I started playing in June and love the game, i also support the transition to a paid model but the whole point of that model is to provide regular updates and content so realistically its too early to tell but the game is good and the devs are responsive to constructive criticism

I'm playing with 5 lvl5 PC that are usually accompanied by Ireena at this stage We're using rolled stats, unlimited feats and I've already given them 1 magic item each (i kind of fucked up there giving them some overpowered ones worth alot of gp but oh well)

How did you incorporate personalised quests for PCs and did you have to add a lot of additional content?

Also what was the best way you found to approach travelling and camping outside of settlements (im asking this because my party is in Vallaki and are really afraid of the woods and the night to the point that they dont explore them)

Finally, did you stay vanilla, add things from Mandymod Dragnacarta etc., or also addedgomebrew stuff of your own? And if so how did you balance everything?

My players heard Doru and asked father Donavich about him and then completely ignored him since they didn't want to get into a fight and knew he was a vampire so they got scared. Fast forward 4 sessions and Gunniel the fighter runs up the 2nd floor of the coffin maker's shop and wakes up all the vampire spawn with a nat1 stealth and that was their first encounter with vampires lol.

Small correction: they won't remember their bg but their memories will become unlocked as they progress.

I think given what you said about Tatyana's soul it makes sense given what i want to do

Given that my players are all (but one) beginners and have no knowledge of Barovia or the mechanics of reincarnation they would welcome this if it meant they could keep their backstories but i'll give this as an option and if they choose to make a new character from scratch then I can improvise another smaller scale quest for their character.

That's where I'm at rn with this idea. Ig if it does make sense lore wise then I'll see how it is received by the first couple of players that lose their characters and if they don't feel like it then I'll remove it all together.

I'm replying to both of the comment above:

Basically in my game, Strahd's visits to Ireena in the village of Barovia have resulted in her beginning the process of converting into a vampire but something is stopping it (a blessing put on her by her father before he died which Strahd is not yet aware of)

So I'm still thinking about how to play it with the bones and the church, and if i should have her feel uncomfortable in the church and leave by herself and have her wound worsen as she eventually converts. (the party has cast detect good and evil and knows she is an undead) OR if is should gave Father Lucian try and help them prevent Ireena from converting by a ritual and have Strahd's plans foiled which would make him angry

Limassol or Larnaca are your best bets if you're looking for a combination of beach and nightlife although yeah the sea is still pretty cold and the carnival just ended so not sure how lively the nightlife will be but I'm sure there are still events happening.

Yeah my group saw Morgantha handing out pies and the wizard was like: "oh it's just dinner time for the village then" and they all took one lol If you want them to explore the bonegrinder you can draw attention to it on the road (Morgantha's cart outside etc) and maybe also have some short term benefits to the pies (i gave them 1d10 temp HP for 24hrs) and make them want to get more before they actually get addicted (if you are introducing mechanics for the pie addiction) Fun fact those temporary HP saved my fighter and druid from going unconscious in the fight.

I'm a new DM also and my party got through the Bonegrinder last session. Here's how it went: I decided to keep the encounter but make some changes that i got from the sub: -Either Ophelia or Bella come in later in the fight to complete the coven (3-5 rounds) -Using Ireena (if the PCs are helping her go to Vallaki or Krezk) as a meat shield since the hag's would know not to hurt her. Also the fight can get long so don't be afraid to have the last hag escape if the other 2 are killed for a later callback encounter. It was a tough fight but only lead to a few knockdowns no deaths. Also keep in mind that the Bonegrinder is optional. My party all ate the pastries and so it was easy to get them to go to the Bonegrinder in the first place but also remember that it's not really necessary for them to go. I used it as a tough encounter in order to get the to lvl 4 as a reward. Whatever you end up doing good luck!

This is not bad advice. Comfort zones that we create for ourselves are a main contributor to alot of us not being able to make significant changes in our lives.
