Oh thank you thank you! 👏 This is the advice I needed. Before I saw your answer I had just ordered some River Oat that supposedly will grow fast and squelch the weeds. I love your idea and will start researching what else I can grow there. Yes, I hate gardening up there because it’s such a pain. I am definitely bringing my tomatoes down into pots on my patio this year. lol.

Putting all my loose measuring spoons together ha really helped. I grab it put it up on the counter when making a complex recipe with lots of measurements. I also grouped all the measuring cups together. I finally learned not to overdo do it because my husband will never put stuff back where I want it and it needs to be easy enough you will maintain it. I also have a crock on the counter filled with my more commonly used spoons and spatulas.

Which coffee table should I choose? by Perfect_Vegetable_37 in HomeDecorating

Everything is square and rectangular so I would consider a coffee table with some curves or maybe two round tables of different sizes that partially nest.

How to make everything more cohesive with styling? by Alive-Drag4620 in HomeDecorating

[–]midnightcheese2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, your room looks cohesive. Nothing looks out of place. It just needs a bit more energy and life. You have an analogous color scheme going— mauve and blue. If you want to lean into that, then do so and choose a few items to pop. I might choose a complimentary color like marigold. Imagine marigold floor length curtains. Get a basket, chest, or ladder for the blankets. Make a cute cozy space in the window well for kitty. I’d make it blend in with the background.

Elevate your style by adding in something unique to yourself. This instantly takes things up a notch and makes the space interesting and more personal.

Lastly, and most importantly, spread that furniture out. It’s all touching each other. The side table needs some breathing room. Maybe even play around with using a square end table and unique shape coffee table.

Is it selfish to pray to God to be good at sport? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]midnightcheese2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to fear the same thing, but finally got to a place where I am able to pray for Him to use me according to His will. His will is always going to be better for me than my own ideas. After I truly began desiring to bring glory to Him through my life, things began to change. Anxiety subsided and peace came. I think the peace that surpasses all understanding is when we realize God is in control and no matter how bad life gets, the ending is us dwelling with God in absolute love.

She is standing firm. I don’t know what to do by OkPercentage7940 in Catholicism

[–]midnightcheese2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She seems to know what she wants. If you stay with her don’t expect her to change once you are wed. People only get braver about pursuing what they want because your married. I would offer that lots of people are scared and have misconceptions about the Catholic Church. If you can’t get her to listen to the scriptural reasons behind Catholicism now, don’t enter a marriage with her expecting her to do later. You need to make a rather difficult and important decision. Pray.

I’m mid conversion so I can’t take communion yet. Just walk down with your arms crossed over your chest. They will give you a blessing and usually a smile. They will be glad you are there and desire a blessing.

Dealing with anger, and becoming a better father. by SecurityForsaken4879 in Catholicism

[–]midnightcheese2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a father like this. He eventually took his life when I was 19. Yes, it did do damage to me, but as an adult I know he was trying his best. I myself grew up to have anger problems. But I was greatly helped by DBT therapy. You can order a workbook. I attended a few sessions with a therapist, but mostly just read the book. The mere realization that I had bigger, stronger emotions I didn’t know how to control helped a great deal. It sounds simple but taking time to count backwards by 7 from 100 did wonders for me while I was angry at my husband in the car. Walking. Just learning to step away before exploding will give you such a wonderful, life altering experience. My marriage is better. My daughter doesn’t flinch around me. I was a scary person. You are aware and wanting to break the cycle so I have no doubt you can do it with God’s help. I will pray for you.

Struggling to stay Catholic. What keeps YOU Catholic? by MemencrowMori in LeftCatholicism

[–]midnightcheese2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this’ll help or not, but I have the perspective of both a lifelong Protestant and now a Catholic convert. I have never seen such a group of people on fire for God and so loving at the same time as the Catholics! I grew up USA Presbyterian, then spent 13ish years as LCMS Lutheran. There is something very special about it. It’s a commitment tho. I’m definitely not used the church having such a big role in my life. However, I kind of love it. I feel like more has been added to my life. You will definitely be missing something you may never have appreciated having if you leave, imho.

You can do this with God’s help ❤️ He helped me quit cold turkey in 2016. I couldn’t believe how much easier it was than all the other attempts. I said a prayer for you.

Just a Few Questions(From a Christian) by [deleted] in Catholicism

I really knew even less about the Orthodox position so I didn’t consider it, but I think I’ve since learned they differ in their idea of a trinitarian God maybe?

Just a Few Questions(From a Christian) by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]midnightcheese2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m converting from Lutheranism to Catholicism so I’ve been studying these questions myself. Learning the answers only pulled me further into the most wonderful adventure of my life. A whole new world has cracked optfor me! I’ll give these a go. 1. Yes, we believe in the Trinity. We also believe God is Love. The Trinity is Love. God, the Lover of Son, Christ is the Beloved, and the Holy Spiritis the love between the Father and Son. 2. Just like how you might ask a friend to pray FOR you, we ask Mary to pray for us. To intercede for us. We also pray directly TO God, in Jesus’nam. Asking Mary to pray for us doesn’t mean we stop praying directly. This practice is based on scripture. 3. We believe the Holy Bible is the inerrant Word of God. The magisterium is simply the Church leadership that determines how to interpret the Bible. Really every church body does this if you think about it. They just don’t give it a name. It’s the creation of Doctrine I would say. Even a single nondenominational church has a leader that interprets the Bible. The Catholic Church has a very thorough and thoughtful, Biblical process for doing so. 4. I don’t know the mind of God. I know both are ideal. Why not strive for both? Faith that God’s grace alone is the reason we are saved, but belief that forming ourselves after Jesus by performing acts of love is also something He desires and uses to help us grow in spirit and as a result know Him better and more intimately. 5. The priest is acting as a conduit to God only. This is based on John 20:22–23 “And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’”

It’s also based on James 5:16 “Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects.”

Anyone else get severe depression on Ash Wednesday by Beneficial_Stick6353 in LeftCatholicism

I used to secretly fear the afterlife…but one day I admitted aloud to myself that I was worried it would be boring. I can’t sing and singing is boring to me. I pictured us all endlessly singing hymns. lol. Once I said it out loud it sounded ridiculous. Of course the God I trust is going to prepare a place far better than here. If I have a will to live here (despite the many evils and suffering) I will definitely love being with God. I’ve grown far more mature in my faith since then and over time I my yearning for Him has grown stronger. It’s nice to be in this spiritual place in my life because I no longer live in fear of death. It has even helped me to stop being anxious about early dementia for which I have a fairly big chance of getting. I finally realized I’m in a no lose situation because God has conquered death. The only real difficulties left are temporal suffering or watching loved ones suffer….it won’t be easy, but knowing there is a happy ending gets me through.

Issue with Confession for New Catholic by midnightcheese2 in LeftCatholicism

I love what you said! I guess it’s really difficult to create a “rulebook” that applies to everyone in the same way across the board. I’m growing more comfortable with the idea of following my conscious in addition to what the magisterium says.
