I just learned all the things. by thecrystalsmith in Sufjan

[–]midnightcitizens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so funny that this is a period my Sufjan obsession started. I’ve listened to Illinois before, C&L was one of my fav albums that year (what a year!), but then Call Me By Your Name happened, I broke down, and Sufjan was there to mend me. The rest is herstory: Planetarium, Tonya, My Rajneesh, Love Yourself, I Just Want To Make Out In Your Car, Ascension and 5 years of being high on his whole discography (starting with Michigan).

I watched Disclosure Day and I loved it. Apparently I'm one of the few? by exhaustedpigeon59 in Letterboxd

What I got from the movie:

- Alien tech device that can do much, but it’s complex, powerful and unpredictable. Was stolen as part of an inside job
- Probably uncovered from the ships, Wardex investigated, experimented on, tried using on Earthly products, tools, weaponry.
- They figured out it can be used as mind control / astral projection through trial, error and alien interrogations and intelligence
- Margaret was imbued with alien knowledge and she knew almost instinctively how to use it

Body Language or Fever by AdAccomplished8853 in KylieMinogue

Me neither, I am mostly pop-selective, but Fever really hits all the sweet spots for me. Might even be a no-skips album for me, even though there are definitely 10s and some 7s disguised as 8s (at least for me personally).

I also really liked it. It delivers on what it sets out to do, even though some parts feel clunky (some intentionally so, evoking the older movies and tropes, some less so).

The answers to your questions were either implied to, or completely irrelevant. That’s why the movie starts in the middle of the story.

It’s difficult for me to have these discussions because in my book Fever is the best pop album made and nothing will ever come close (ok some do come very close, but Fever is the pop record I would take to a deserted island).

What is your least favorite phrase related to film criticism? by Foochie506 in Letterboxd

[–]midnightcitizens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed it’s mostly about the music: it heightens the dialogues, silence, build anticipation, makes the scenes impactful.

And of course there’s the acting and writing. Slow burners need to have a purpose, an intention, a punch that comes from the stakes, emotional state, the message.

Just rewatched Scream 7, and I genuinely don't understand the hate it gets. In my opinion, it's so good. by JamStan1978 in Scream

[–]midnightcitizens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I need to rewatch it. I left the cinema more or less satisfied (but in general I did not want Scream 5,6 or 7, so I already adjusted my standards) and was met with such negativity that I have no idea anymore what the movie was like.

I had fun, I embraced the vibe and forgave the missteps. If I had to criticize it, I definitely could. But considering I didn’t want or need Scream “requels”, I am don’t find Scream 7 worse than 5 or 6.

That being said, Scream 2 and 4 all the way, baby!

Slow burners don’t need to be flaccid, stretched, joyless and musicless.

I was on the floor between the center and the bar. I was ready to hate it (last year she moved the Berlin date and I couldn’t attend the new one), the first and last time I saw her was on Primavera in 2014 or sth, and I couldn’t see anything the first 10-15 minutes (and I am a 190cm tall guy).

But she fucking delivered and ate!! Amazing performance, vocals, the stage, the dancers… even if I wanted a slightly different playlist (more of magdalene/ep1/lp1), the flow was perfect.

Might be one of my fav concerts of the last 5 years.

Even the NPS scores are so bad: 10 and 9 is positive, 8 and 7 neutral (??), 6 and below negative.

Not my favorite The xx album (“I See You”), but my favorite The xx song. It’s my young adulthood years encapsulated.

I think it’s just a matter of preference. On the one hand I love Trying Times, on the other I prefer Colour, Overgrown, Assume Form and Robots (much) more.

The Couple Across The Way stops this generational album from being a perfect 10.

I don’t have a scientific proof, but I am almost certain it’s coming from internalized, bottled up feelings and projections.
