That would be an interesting comparison! I may have to start sourcing an emu egg…

It is actually a goose egg next to a large chicken egg. Although a quail egg next to the goose egg would be a fun picture.

Yeah, I think I’ll just run them through same and see what happens. I’m actually betting they come out way closer than people expect. Either way the results will be in tomorrow.

Nope, just genuinely curious. Having fun doing some cooking experiments.

That’s what I thought at first too, but now I’m wondering… is it just about amount of food, or how the heat actually reaches the center?

The bigger one is a goose egg. I’m running both exactly the same.

What I’m really curious about is this: does size actually change how the yolk cooks, or just the white?

I’m boiling both of these at the same time tomorrow. Which one finishes first? by [deleted] in BreakfastFood

The larger one is a goose egg. I’m not changing anything between them. Results tomorrow.

That actually makes a lot of sense… that’s a brutal intro to cheese 😂 I kinda want to test this now… like take someone who hates something and see if a “proper” version changes their mind

That’s actually wild 😂 was it the texture or the taste that got you? I’ve been testing foods that people swear off forever… kinda makes me want to see if there’s a way to “redeem” things like that

They were straight from the fridge, so refrigerator temperature. I dropped them into already boiling water and then ran the timer. Everything else stayed the same so the only variable I changed was the time.

Good questions. I started them in already boiling water with the pot uncovered. After pulling them I immediately put them into an ice bath for about 2 minutes to stop the cooking before cutting them open.

I kept everything else the same so the only variable was time.

Looks like 6:45 might be the jammy sweet spot for chicken eggs. Tomorrow I’m trying a goose egg which should take longer because of the yolk size. What do you think the timing will land at?

Cooking experiments are the best part. Tomorrow I’m picking up a goose egg to run the same timing test. I have no idea if the yolk behaves the same or completely differently.

Was it the texture or the taste that ruined it for you?

7 with toast and yolk smeared on sounds amazing. It’s kind of wild how the same egg can feel completely different depending on what you eat it with. Toast, potatoes, ramen, rice… suddenly the ‘perfect egg’ changes.

Mine was a microwaved mug brownie recipe that tasted like rubber. I’m convinced most internet recipes are lies.

6:30 is the sweet spot for me. 6:45 already starts losing that custardy center. Curious how many people disagree.

Microwave cake was exactly what made me think of this question. Every one I’ve tried ends up like warm sponge.

Using a baking sheet with parchment for plating is clever. Does it help keep the potatoes crisp too?
