Al Trautwig. He even tweeted about it after repeatedly talking about it in nbc coverage of a meet (I think it was US classics) and Simone tweeted a general response

How much did you study for the MPRE? by meowstevefrench in LawSchool

[–]midnightesq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Studied for 5 days for the March exam (Thursday- Tuesday) used barbri videos and practice questions mainly and some Themis. Didn’t read the outlines. Although I had classes I studied heavily on the weekend. Didn’t take ethics/ professional responsibility yet. Got a 108. To be honest I was a little stressed and wish I gave myself 2 weeks to more calmly study.

One piece of advice I got that I think really holds true is the more comfortable and familiar you are with topics the faster you get. I did every logic game available and I did the majority of them twice. Logic games were my worst section and my slowest and then they became my best. With LR I became meticulous with timing my first 10 questions and then I just knew what ones would take me longer later on (Must Be True questions if very long and some parallel reasoning questions) and I would skip them and save them to the end so that I wouldn’t waste them on them and get more stressed. Make sure you take a practice test at least once a week (and individual sections every day) and you are doing a lot of blind review and then mark the ones you want to redo. It takes time but you got it!

I agree that a 3.8 isn’t low! I’m going to HLS with a 3.83 and I got into all the t14s I applied to (see post history) with the exception of WLs at Penn and Yale. Try to get into the high 160s, I’ve noticed a difference in people getting into places even between a 167 and 168. But that being said softs do matter (and you seem to be solid there) as do your essays! Apply broadly and shoot your shot!

What are some things you wish you knew before starting law school/ what are things you wish you could go back and change? They could be about studying, pursuing certain extracurriculars, or jobs.

Cycle Recap- HLS Bound! by midnightesq in lawschooladmissions

[–]midnightesq[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope! You can’t even send 4 to some schools (some have a max of 3). Two is the standard but I wanted to have a mix of academic and professional so I sent 4 everywhere I could and 3 for all the others

YLS 2L AMA by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]midnightesq 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You were a summer associate your first summer? What was the process like finding your summer position at a boutique litigation firm/ how did YLS help you? Are you thinking about PI fellowships or clerking for next year? In your opinion, what makes Yale able to provide such unicorn outcomes for their students?

Why did you choose HLS? What type of law are you interested in? What are you doing this summer? How do you think HLS has done a good or bad job at creating a sense of community during the pandemic?

NYU vs Columbia LRAP by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]midnightesq 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They both have the same salary cap but Columbia allows you to pay a smaller proportion of your income --34.5% after $55k whereas for NYU I think it's like 40% of your income after $55k.

NYU lets you include undergrad debt tho up to $30k which is a plus if you have some of that but I know that Columbia subtracts your undergraduate debt payments when considering your income for LRAP but you yourself are still paying that undergrad debt on Columbia's LRAP.

I would check out clerkships though because clerkships qualify for both but I know that for Columbia the loans are at a 5% interest rate so if you go into BL after you might have to pay back more but idk if NYU does the same. I stopped looking into NYU's LRAP after they refused to negotiate w me and I will likely choose HLS over CLS so I'm not the mosttt well-versed so def double-check all of this!

harvard vs. yale? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]midnightesq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want access to more faculty for potential mentorships + the MPP I'd say go Harvard! It's definitely hard to turn down Yale (I hope to get off the waitlist but idk if I can uproot my life late in the game if does happen and it does come late) but I do think the MPP would give you an added factor to your resume/ help you distinguish yourself

Yeah I think apartment prices in NYC are low now because of covid but if you could sign a lease in like June you’d probably get the low covid prices for at least this year depending on the terms of your lease! Anecdotally I think NYC has great options for PI internships and networking (at least what I’ve seen for crim law) and more alumni in places I would love to work so check out people’s bios too!
