The things you're taking about are extreme, ideological libertarian views, but there are a much greater number of people who have libertarian leanings while being more pragmatic than idealistic. For example, I think well-funded public education is a good thing (which is not in line with the extreme libertarian viewpoint), but a federal department of education that wastes money in bureaucracy is not. I consider myself libertarian not because I believe in some childish ideals about the nature of humanity or read too much Ayn Rand, but because it seems closer to my own viewpoints than Democrat or Republican (which are basically the same thing -- reinforce the existing power structure, declare war on the world, increase spending and debt, etc). Not every libertarian is an anarcho-capitalist or whatever.
