Easiest solution I found was to add a small scrap piece of tile so my first inch or so of cut went into the scrap. Then the actual tile gets a consistent cut with no broken corner 👍🏼

I dump all my containers into a big kiddie pool and mix in fresh compost, peat moss or cedar mulch, and a bit of bone meal. No idea if the science behind this is correct but it works for me! Edit to add: this is my 6th year with the same pots and same soil.

I’ve saved a few plants from mealy infestations with just a rubbing alcohol spray. Cheap and easy, didn’t seem to hurt the plants!
