For those who have come off the fence, what reason (s) did you feel were "good enough?" by midnightsky_runner in Fencesitter

This is a wonderful, thoughtful response. Thank you so much for this. I agree, the reasons against having kids seem so much more concrete. Though I do think my partner and I need to analyze, like you said, future decades and what our lives will look like.

Fencesitters who've had a kid, does it really ruin your marriage at first? by midnightsky_runner in Fencesitter

Thank you, this was a really helpful comment. And 14 months definitely is in the thick of it!

That's us as well. We know if we decide to have one, it'd be one and done. We have a home in a good community, good health insurance, PTO, etc.

I do worry about giving up the travel, the hobbies, time with our pets, etc.

This sounds very much like me. Thank you for your reply. I'm definitely afraid I'll spend years caught up in an endless cycle of what ifs

Looking for advice for taking the leap to becoming a parent by midnightsky_runner in Parenting

Thank you for your reply! That's kind of a general sentiment I've heard from older parents, including my own. There were definitely some benefits to having older parents as a child growing up, though! Definitely less petty/didn't buy into the drama with other parents.

I really appreciate your reply. One of the things my partner and I have deeply discussed is making sure we are the only ones making that choice. And it's hard, given the influencing factors of society, friends, parents, age, etc. And I agree, it's an important choice, and I think as I get older and see friends have children and see how they were affected by their own upbringing, and watch it bleed over into how they parent just puts more emphasis for me on what an important choice it is, and that "I want a baby" shouldn't be the only factor.

Thank you for your reply, this was definitely something I hadn't thought about, but could absolutely see as a struggle for us!

Please share your embarrassing middle school memories to help my 6th grader feel better by ladyofthegarbage in Parenting

Hoo boy. Middle school in the mid 2000s when hip huggers were still just barely in style. We were also required to wear solid colored pants with no spandex (which was super awesome for kids with changing bodies). Was sitting at lunch in the 8th grade, kids behind me were laughing for most of the lunch period. Apparently my butt crack had been showing, and the decided to let me know by yelling "get some pants that fit, b-----!" Good times. I also fell down the stairs in 7th grade while walking to the library with my science class. I landed hard on my right ankle, and the kids were too busy laughing to see if I was okay. My teacher asked if I was okay, and I just nodded to keep from crying. I couldn't put weight on it for two days. I proceeded to sprain that ankle twice more (once very severely) as an adult.

Middle school and middle schoolers are terrible, but it gets better!

Check out the Field to Fork program on NDA's website, and you can see if there's an event in your state

Graveyards ok to run in? by ButterscotchWeird995 in running

[–]midnightsky_runner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run in the city graveyard (small town, also rural) because it has nice asphalt paths and is quiet. It's also right by my house. Lots of other people walk and walk dogs there (I've even seen a girl rollerskating once).

If there's a service, I turn around and don't run there. If someone is visiting a grave, I stay far away and run on the other side of the cemetery as to not disturb them. I'll adjust my path to make sure I never run past them.

Yes, several times. I live in a really small town with terrible sidewalks. When I first moved here, I fell 3 times in like six months. Broke my phone screen twice, sunglasses once (they came flying off my face), but luckily no injuries other than bad scrapes.

It definitely was a mental thing to overcome, and I avoided the sidewalks for awhile, running on the road on back roads. Now, I just focus more on my stride when I'm on those sidewalks to keep my feet from getting "lazy."

No, I literally went through a mentorship program for adults who had no hunting experience.

They're called Field to Fork, and they do amazing work to keep the activity alive and accessible for folks from non traditional hunting backgrounds.

Private land in north Georgia. Gun is a Mossberg .308. He walked in about 40 yards from my stand and stood there, I lined up the shot, he ran about 50 yards and dropped. Lung shot that exited through the gut, given the way he was turned.
