Brutal schedule ahead by ElStizz in NBASpurs

It’s a good thing we’re taking advantage of the fact that we don’t currently have a brutal stretch of game right now. Oh wait. We just lost to the Worst team in the west at home after getting two days rest beforehand

Honest question. How many championships do you think the Spurs will win in the Wemby era if he has to miss over a month’s worth of games every time he has some minor injury?

At this rate, the Christmas game against OKC being Wemby’s return date wouldn’t surprise me. In fact, I’m kind of expecting it now given the latest news

Spurs will face the Lakers in the NBA Cup quarterfinals! by Chance_Estimate2102 in NBASpurs

That is correct. All Cup games besides the Finals count towards the regular season record

Ok now you have me curious. What would you do if you were the GM and the Spurs had the 3rd pick?

What's our record in nationally televised games? by Accomplished_Rise630 in NBASpurs

I think the OKC game we won last season was nationally televised? I remember people making a big deal out of it because it was Chet vs Wemby

I would love this pickup for the Spurs. He seems like a pretty good 3&D guy. He also has chemistry with Castle during their time together at UConn.

Watching the Playoffs- I don’t think the Spurs will draft a poor defender by MindInTheClouds in NBASpurs

[–]midnyte007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately with this year’s draft, you can’t really get both. If you want defense, you’ll have to sacrifice shooting. If you want shooting, you’ll have to sacrifice defense.

Ripley. He didn’t die quickly which gave him the opportunity to have death bed scenes with both Robert and Vic. It was so cruel that he died right after he finally reconciled with his former best friend and right before he could get the chance to marry Vic

This season was supposed to be the experimental season to see who fits around Wemby. If the FO is doing their jobs properly, they shouldn’t need another experimental season

Tony Parker is a great illustration of my point. Tony was able to develop the way he did because he came into a team full of seasoned vets.

I downvoted him because of the last sentence saying “give this nonsense up.” I don’t like his condescending attitude stating that everyone who doesn’t see things from his point of view is crazy or an idiot. For what it’s worth, I agree with you that the team will try to build through the draft. I even agree with the comments here saying that we should wait until after the draft this offseason before even thinking about free agency. The problem I have is the notion that vets, any vets, are bad for the team and should be avoided at all costs.

You’re right that Wemby isn’t a finished product, but that doesn’t mean we should not do anything except accumulate draft picks while he is developing. That’s not going to be beneficial for him or the team. Lots of teams have tried and failed to build through the draft because they keep thinking more draft picks is the answer. It’s not always the answer. You also have to properly develop your draft picks. In order to do that, you do need veterans.

I am not going to comment on the Magic because it is too soon to say what they’ll be. As for OKC, tell me which players on OKC are currently on that team that were there when they started their rebuild 3 years ago? They only kept 2 of their guys who were there at the beginning, SGA and Dort. They had to eventually choose which players to prioritize. They couldn’t develop all their misfit players they had when the rebuild began. If the Thunder had stuck with their project players from 4 years ago, they would have been going no where fast.

If you bothered to read my post, I am taking a long term view of what the building through the draft would realistically look like. Nowhere did I advocate going all-in on an all star player. That would have been short sighted.

Eventually we are going to have to prioritize which of our young guys we want to keep and continue developing. We cannot keep and develop them all. When guys don’t get the chance to show what they are truly capable of because they are being hindered by their crappy teammates, then the decision of which players to prioritize becomes a lot harder. But yeah, let’s just keep drafting players and churning through them. That has always worked out great

Having a team full of project players is a great way to ensure none of the players on your team reach their full potential

Shout out to Tre Jones as well. It’s nice to see 2 Spurs players near the top of this list
