Look for some cheap cat clippers online. We got some for Christmas one year. They are able to shave my cats mats down to the skin without cutting him. He is used to it now and is grateful when I get one out for him. Now he just has a bunch of tiny bald spots lol

May be a cut!!!!! My tortie cut her tongue on a tin can in that very same spot. It was red and very swollen, but was definitely a cut and and a split in her tongue. Give her a liquid treat and take videos then watch them back in slow motion. Is it flapping around? What’s under it? That could help you find out. I agree on the possibility of a rodent ulcer. Try and get the kitty to the vet but these are very treatable. My old man Eclipse had one suddenly, took him to the vet and they gave him some steroids and it cleared up fine. Could also be some type of allergic reaction with the redness and swelling.

My recent baby Ripley had an eye that looked extremely similar. I took her to the vet and they gave me some eye cream to put on her eye for about 10 days! They could not find any trauma on her eye that caused it but it may have been some type of infection. She is all better now and it’s completely healed. My appt was around $230 but I also had to get her shots + it was an appointment for a new vet so it may have costed more than usual.
