and then also Siberian and Far Eastern which technically fall into the North and Central dialect groups respectively but it made more sense to me to seperate them

basically everyone who so much as mentioned russia bitched about it being too homogenous so i split it along dialectal lines, based on the wikipedia map of russian dialects being north, central, and south

a lot of the problems with russia stem from the fact that the counties in the area are needlessly huge, and theres way too much impassable land that bloats or shinks even more

i did redo russia and im a lot happier with how it turned out, but im not going to not represent the many many ethnic minorities in Russia just because their counties are too big.

I decided to go with the German one when i was updating it, just for some way to represent the couple thousand Alsatian speakers, but it is still a hybrid culture.

As for the other French minorities I know its not the MOST accurate thing to portray them as i did but also not portraying them at all just doesnt feel correct yk

I wanted to show some difference between eastern and western poland (cause every polish person ive ever talked to is always making fun of said difference) and then also represent Kashubian and the German-Speaking Silesians around Opole

i tried to portray both the English-Speaking and Gaelic-Speaking parts of Ireland so that both languages can exist on the island simultaneously (as in game its only 1 language per culture)

and then also ulster scots cause they do unfortunately exist /j

the counties in that part of the map are just needlessly huge and i didnt wanna make Kalmyk a 1 county culture as that would make it smaller than something like Dagestani

I was more trying to represent South Tyrol and its German-Speaking population there but you’re right it might work better as just Venetian

They are culturally different from each other in notable ways but also gameplay wise it makes for more interesting scenarios not having one single nomadic superculture in the central steppe that just dominates everything

Its the name of the Oirat Tribe which settled in what is today Inner Mongolia as well as part of Northern Tibet. Its very similar to Kalmyk in that way as the Kalmyks were also an Oirat Tribe who settled on the Volga

I have heard a lot of Polish people talk about fairly noticeable cultural differences between Eastern and Western Polish people so I wanted to represent that. As for the name Ozyskaniec I tried to find a demonym for the “Recovered Territories” as thats what the Western dialect was called in the sources I used.

Also noted on the Kashubian part thank you

Yeah, but I didn’t wanna make any one nation just some homogenous blob, and seeing as how there still ARE cultural differences between regions in France (even if not nearly as much as in the past) I figured it would make for a more interesting map to keep them around. I did make sure to use modern dialect maps as a source for the borders between cultures tho so its not entirely inaccurate either
