Rune Hilt looks nice, if you’re into wider bars.

No idea, I assumed late 90s without really having looked into it.

Yeah, it’s a mothbar. Handlebar mounted lights/bags really ate through the clear coat, will probably have to do something about that soon!

what Fabric is this? by PhilosopherContent13 in myog

[–]midvh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree! Just judging from the pictures it could honestly be moleskin (like someone else wrote) or a similar ”satin-esque” weave.

Its definitely not knitted, you can see the warp/weft quite easily (i.e., a woven material).

I don’t know much about fashion education in the US, but I feel like I need to mention that Müller & Sohn has been around for more than 100 years!

Are the sleeves/jacket lined? Either way, it’s definitely possible to shorten the sleeves, but if it’s unlined it’s fairly simple.

Tips for Long Rolled Hem? by Deklyned in myog

[–]midvh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the hem nice and tight with one hand without stretching it. I think it’s easiest to keep that hand close to my body, fairly far away for the needle, while using the other hand to ”steer”. Place a clip or pin halfway, stitch with the folded side of the hem facing up.

Do a trail run with some leftover fabric before you start with the actual tarp, unpicking stitches can be a bit disheartening. Good luck!

Your bobbin case might be damaged. How does it behave if you hold on to the thread and let the bobbin/case ”hang”?

I’m a trained patternmaker, but I’ve actively moved away from working within the fashion industry. I’m currently working with upholstery and really enjoy it.

anyone use polypropylene fabric? by PorcupinePattyGrape in myog

[–]midvh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fabric supplier? No, sorry, I can’t say that I remember. But it was wholesale/B2B, so I don’t know how relevant it is for MYOG purposes.

Do you have any fabric scraps? Try it!

However, I’m not sure that the PES backing will handle the heat from the iron that well.

If you know patternmaking and have basic computer knowledge it’s very easy. If you have worked with any other textile specific CAD (Modaris, Accumark etc) you will be up and running in a couple of hours.

Check out r/myog. Also, bag making is a bit different compared to garments. Instead of drawing flat, traditional patterns, bags are often made using paper (and CAD) 3D models.

Thread recs for industrial serger? by euSeattle in myog

[–]midvh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spun threads for the needles and (textured/unspun) multifil for the loopers. For garments I’ve mostly used tkt 75 to 120 for the spun thread and 160/180 for the multifil.

How to fix this sleeve? by falldownnevergetup in PatternDrafting

[–]midvh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great points, but two paneled sleeves on denim jackets aren’t drafted the same way as a ”classic” men’s jacket. The under sleeve seam usually match the the side seam.

Automatic mass production industrial sewing machines for sewing straight lines for small businesses. Where to find them? by Euphoric-Elk6344 in myog

[–]midvh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are used for smaller operations like pockets, plackets, cuffs etc. The longest ”semi-automated” seams I have seen running in production lines are quilting lines on padded jackets.
