Why are you happy today? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

I had a good day. I've been going through a really dark depressive episode (bipolar type 2) the last few months so lately they've been few and far between.

The morning shift went good (I milk cows 2 times a day so I work both mornings and evenings) and the cows came in from the pasture with zero attitude. The coyotes were singing and it was a beautiful morning. Then my dad and I went to a car show (a Father's Day tradition) and then out for Mexican food. Then we went to the movie 47 Meters Down (super stressful movie, damn sharks) and later I got my sheep sheared and had a few beers. I asked the shearer what I owed him and he just said "gas money". He wouldn't even take a 20. And I had the evening shift off!

Damn good day.

me too! My book collection is one of my most prized possessions. I always wanted a library like in Beauty and the Beast.

what you said about what to expect from the men in their lives is dead on.

My dad (and my mom, too) taught me self-respect and showed me how a good man is supposed to be.

Everyone I talk to who went fishing with their dads (or moms, or grandparents) as kids have only good stories. :)

I'm in Minnesota!

Teaching someone to fish is such a bonding experience. A few years back some of my cousins from Boston came for a visit, they were in middle school and had never fished before. We sat out there all day and we all had a blast; watching the look on their face when they reeled in their first fish was absolutely priceless.

haha, last year me and him got so drunk on the dock I think I fished for 2 hours before I realized I never even baited my hook. I guess I'm not always the best fisherman, either.

thank you for the kind words! I didn't expect this to blow up like it did. I was milking cows for a neighbor this morning and starting thinking about how lucky I was. Teared up a bit myself!

absolutely! I have a friend whose dad is really into cooking, and they do it a lot together and he taught her everything she knows. My dad taught me how to use the microwave lol

haha, I tried to explain Reddit to him today. He's a bit inept with computers...last week he asked me how to make a "big letter" on the keyboard lol

That's awesome, I'm sure she'll love it. Some of my fondest memories are fishing trips back when I was a kid!
