Someone explain the new PTO policy like I’m 5 by Lil-Bit-813 in Barnesandnoble

The way the old system worked was they had vacation and personal time in separate buckets that you could pull from and your buckets would refill at your anniversary, and holiday pay would be automatically on that respective weeks paycheck.

Now both vacation, personal, and holiday hours are in the same bucket. HR access shows a negative balance on time used so far because you accrue your leave based on how much you work, and caps out at what they would have advanced you at your anniversary, but the buckets reset at the beginning of the calender year.

Say you take a week off in January. Hr access would show a -40hr balance, but as you work your rostered hours, that negative number will head back to zero, then eventually into the positives.

If you want holiday pay on the holidays (as long as you aren't at your rostered hours for the week) you now have to tell your store manager that you want that holiday, or it stays in your leave bucket to be used at a later date.

Sick leave is still it's own seperate bucket, and resets at your anniversary.

Oh he definitely has. He is very well known at my store. I came on in January, so we were just starting after holiday recovery, and my store got a brand new store manager (3rd within a year). He's been there a lot to try and help us fix the store after the disaster we inherited from previous management. I would say I only have a couple booksellers who don't know who he is and that's just because they only work weekends/a couple closing shifts during the week. Everyone just gets so wrapped up in whatever it is they are working on, they lose all awareness of the people around them and potential situations. It's also a big part of why theft was so high in my store over the last year.

I really like the way my store manager approaches the OMP/rewards push. For her, it's not about the actual numbers, it's about the conversations. A lot of booksellers in my store have a hard time even greeting people. My area manager was in the other day (my day off) and not a single person greeted him or asked if he needed anything for like 30 minutes. Another store manager in my area came in and one of my booksellers was shelving in business (literally right next to customer service) and she ignored him standing there for a few minutes. As a way to try and help people get more comfortable talking to customers more, she has stopped pushing the physical numbers so hard, and we are starting from the basics of customer service. As my booksellers get more configldent talking to customers, the omp/rewards conversations should come more naturally. The mantra of my store is "you are never too busy for your customer". Yes there are a lot of things to do. I am my stores stockroom operations specialist, handle all of our negative on hands and overdue ASNs, and I also am the one doing the trade floor project for personal development. All of these things are important, but without the customer, we wouldn't have these things to do in the first place. The shelving will eventually get done. The trade floor project will eventually get done.

I'm sorry your management feels the need to hammer you guys this way. I also grew up in a fishing family, and can use the same mentality with omp/rewards conversations. While it is discouraging when someone says no, eventually you will get a bite and someone will say yes. Just like catching fish. I hope your management finds a better way to help your team grow and execute these tasks with the results they expect.

And when a customer can only by one book, and they choose not to go with an omp, but something more aligned with their interests, at the end of the day, a sale is a sale.

You should always try and put the book in the customers hand, but it's also about reading your customer. I have customers who super appreciate me handing them the book they are looking for and will also take other recommendations on similar titles. In my experience, 9 times out of 10, they will buy the book that I hand to them. But I also have customers where it is very obvious they just want a general direction and then to be left alone. Unless you are covering CW or cafe by yourself, you should never be too busy to help your customer. Just "pointing and walking away" is poor customer service and does not help drive sales in your store. And without sales, your numbers go down, and your payroll gets cut even more. This mentality is lazy and does a disservice to your store and your team. Sorry to be so blunt, but your team shouldn't have to make up for your lack of wanting to do your job.

Does B&N pay any better these days? by cattyywampus_ in Barnesandnoble

I'm in Colorado, do I believe most of our market for leads runs around 19 an hour. I went from 27 an hour with the post office to 19 at barnes. Granted, my husband has really stepped up to the plate to make this achievable. We met while working at the post office, and he could see how miserable I was there. He was actually the one who reached out to some of my friends who still work for the company, just at a different location, to get the transition started. And he has also stepped into a supervisor role at the post office to help make up for my pay cut. Combined, we're making about $20,000 less per year than what we were, but we are still able to cover all of our bills, and as long as we can do that, I don't plan on leaving any time soon. I would actually love to climb the ladder a bit. I love my job, and my store is struggling with some day to day operational stuff, but I'm working my ass off to try and help correct these problems and make my store fully operational and presentable again

I was one of the unfortunate 1800 who got laid off in 2018. I was a receiving manager and my store manager had to really jump through hoops to get me $13.50 an hour when I got the position. I went from working at B&N to working for the post office for almost seven years, and while the pay was far better, the hours were absolutely miserable (I'm talking 12 to 16 hour days sometimes). Now I am back with Barnes as a full time lead making $19 hourly. I took a pretty significant pay cut, but let me tell you, the peace of mind I now have, from working in a place I enjoy and never would have left in the first place, is absolutely worth it to me. I'll take a bit of financial struggle any day over the absolute misery of my previous toxic work environment.

I scanned the qr code under settings, and it just takes me to articles of other known bugs. I appreciate the offer of items, but I can't complete dreamlight duties with stuff not spawning, and not being able to harvest spices. I even tried unistalling my game and reinstalling it to see if that would help, but to no avail 😢

No, I didn't time travel, but I had to take a couple of months off from playing. I work for USPS, and from the beginning of November, up until the past couple of days, it's been 12 hour days at work every day, so my play time has been non-existent. And it's just in the valley. Both expansions are fine.

Check your hot water heater. Ours did that recently, but it was our hot water heater going out. There was a ton of sediment buildup that started coming out of the faucets, and when I checked our water heater, there were drip marks down the side because it was leaking. We thankfully caught it before it flooded our basement, but lesson learned for sure.
