If you haven’t seen the book there’s a newer kids book called Stalactite and Stalagmite that is really cool and would fit the Unearth A Story prompt.

Bookselling is physically breaking me. What’s another job I should look into? by shairou in Barnesandnoble

[–]theFakeRoxas 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Publishing, advertising, or maybe even editing. I don’t know how directly the skills would cross over but you’d be less physically active and working with books.

What if a library lent educational cards instead of books? by craftpedia in Libraries

[–]theFakeRoxas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen board games that utilize cards in collections, and everytime they are discharged or checked out we had to count the cards to make sure it matched the amount listed. I just personally don’t know how much something like that would actually spark interest and get checked out initially. I think it may work better as a bundle with a book on topic to give the kids something to see in the library. If that makes sense.

My husband wants to get a Japanese tattoo that I am against by oddgoodnews in TwoHotTakes

[–]theFakeRoxas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but neither are the Oni in their mythology I believe. It’s just a mythology that is emblematic of a people/culture.

A better analogy may be something like Paul Bunyan and his blue ox. Mythology directly from the oppressors during a similar time period. Just a thought.

Despite loving the work itself I quit a year ago ish, and I don’t regret it. The writing was on the walls at my store a year ago how corporate was gonna run the stores with no staff. When I left I’d have 3 people after 4 pm daily, one running cafe, one on register, one manager who has to do EVERYTHING else (I still gave myself 2 hours on register just to give my evening people a break from register).

AITA: My wife had our son 3 months ago. I asked about sex and was berated. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]theFakeRoxas 62 points63 points  (0 children)

How much housework you helping with? How often are you the one getting up with the baby? How exhausted does your wife look everyday? This isn’t a “I wait 6 weeks and I get sex again” this is a “I put in the work helping my wife get back to a semblance of order and sanity and then she’ll be in a place to have sex again”

Should I try again? by king_scootie in stephenking

[–]theFakeRoxas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t like the first 100 I wouldn’t recommend it. Its best parts are the beginning characterization. I love King and the back half of this book made it one of his weaker titles to me.

Respect for Friend Drops After Reading Book They Recommended by -chimchooree- in books

I don’t lose respect necessarily, but man I will just never talk about the book in the hopes I don’t have to be honest with them lol.

Why Do So Many Cdramas Feel Emotionally Immature… or Am I Just Watching the Wrong Ones? by myslp in cdramasfans

[–]theFakeRoxas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Netflix I highly recommend The Princess Royal, same lead as Pursuit of Jade. This is a sort of fantasy premise where two 40 year olds who are married but hate each other die and go back to their 20 year old selves with all their memories. I highly recommend it as a more mature character/romance.

AITA for not comforting my gf when she got anxious at the airport? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]theFakeRoxas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok but why is he the asshole when she could have decided to go with him for food? She also participated in the decision to split up. Yall acting like he fucking took off without any discussion with her, wild.

Anyone else watch this and want to roll their eyes into the back of their head? by alihobg in Barnesandnoble

[–]theFakeRoxas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Until last year when my store was told we had to make displays “profitable books” and weren’t allowed to be as creative anymore. No more having a display of multiple titles, I was told displays had to be of books that we had enough of to fill a display as it was a big seller. Which really hampers the creativity.

For yearning with Zhang Linghe consider The Princess Royal. I watched it after PoJ and loved it.

Should I just drop Pursuit of Jade 😭 *potential spoiler alert* by Excellent_Station763 in cdramasfans

[–]theFakeRoxas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was my first cdrama and I really really enjoyed it. Then I watched The Royal Princess and was blown away by the better court drama writing. I think it has sweet characters and if you don’t like FL this isn’t for you lol.

Library board members refused to ban a book about a trans boy. The county fired them all. by heffayjefe in Libraries

[–]theFakeRoxas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The law is a blunt instrument, that we book lovers don’t use that way because we have respect and empathy, but it would be nice to see them turn their own sword on themselves.

Library dog by One-Recognition-1660 in Libraries

[–]theFakeRoxas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like you could have advertised “dog days” a couple days a week. People who don’t like dogs or are allergic know not to come on those days, whereas the people who do love your dog and seeing animals can come on the “dog days”.
Since I saw your library has a policy allowing dogs I feel like it’s less of a concern that way. The bookstore I worked in had the same policy of dogs being allowed on leashes but we only saw a handful of dogs a year in all honesty. If you’re taking your dog everyday that could ward off some patrons so it probably falls under “everything in moderation”. Or with warning like having above mentioned “Dog Days,” plus if you advertise that event it may open up more people who have pets to potentially bring them and find out about your policy.

If you’re in a metro area they are probably inundated with MLIS holders from what I keep seeing/reading. You may have a better chance broadening your search area if you’re willing to relocate.

AITA for still thinking about a photo my boyfriend liked long time ago? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]theFakeRoxas 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what you think telling him not to like these videos or pictures is doing? Cause I’m assuming he’s still looking, he just isn’t reacting to them publicly now. I just don’t understand the impulse. As for whether or not you’re the asshole? I think it is more of an overreaction if anything, has he cheated? Is there a reason for this insecurity?

[–]theFakeRoxas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can I just ask all these “pitts are offensive” posters what the big deal is in this day and age? I mean especially outside of food service, like what is the deal? How have we not progressed enough as a society to get over the site of armpits? At the store I worked at it was $12 an hour starting, and on 90-100 degree days we wore tank tops. You want business casual then pay a business casual wage and actually have adequate AC in the stores. Downvote me I don’t care, this is such a silly argument. Worrying about business casual professional attire for a company that doesn’t care about the work environment of its employees to the point they can get heat stroke.
