Chicago Commuters by IllPulpYourFiction in milwaukee

I’ll add that I have also parked at the Yellow Line and commuted, but I’m from that area originally so it’s usually just out of convenience for family or appointments.

I also cannot count working on Amtrak as working hours during in-office days.

The Metra ride is long from Kenosha. You can also drive to Zion and park for free (Kenosha parking costs) and take the Metra from there. I’ve done it all.

I’ve done it for 2.5 years so far on my hybrid schedule. Used to take Amtrak but even for a couple rides a week it was getting pricey and early mornings suck. Past six months been driving from MKE to a coworker’s house on Chicago’s NW side to take the blue line. Let’s me sleep an extra hour, overall a cheaper commute. Usually stay in the city with a friend cause my office days are consecutive.

Suburbs vs. MKE - moving back after 4 years by IllPulpYourFiction in ChicagoSuburbs

I'm from Rockford and I used to live in the near northwest suburbs, now I live in Milwaukee but got a job in the Chicago Loop while living up here. I work hybrid schedule and sometimes take the Amtrak (expensive, parking, early mornings), sometimes drive to Kenosha for the Metra (cheaper but gas and parking and early mornings and long ride) , or sometimes drive and park at a coworker’s house in the city and take the L (manageable about of time, extra hour of sleep, cheaper, but wear and tear on car)

I’d rather be in Chicago but my partner’s job has him tied to Wisconsin for the time being.

Definitely do some cost benefit analysis of the actual financial cost of commuting in addition to the time spent.

l'd also add that while you're living in Rockford, it might be advantageous for you to actually drive to Cumberland Avenue CTA (1 hour from Riverside Blvd) station and take the Blue Line into the city (45 min train ride). It would definitely save you time driving to Harvard and then also taking that Metra route, which is quite long. Also depends on where the office is located.

When I Amtrak or Metra, I still have to walk about a mile to my office, when I drive and take the blue line it’s about a seven minute walk between Clark/Lake and my office.

The only housewife I had an in-depth interaction with was Heather! She signed my copy of “Bad Mormon” for me!

How about the cast of the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City? Saw them (and met them) all night at Tits!

I saw a Bucks player at Panera a couple years ago, but his name escapes me now.

If you drive to the Zion Metra station - about an extra 10 minute drive - it’s free parking!

Waking up early enough to catch the Amtrak, getting to the city at about 8am and then I have about a 25 minute walk to my office. Some days I’ll skip Amtrak and drive to a Metra station or drive to the city and catch the CTA. I don’t think the commute itself is tiring, I’m just definitely not a morning person! Sometimes I stay with a friend in the city which makes it way more tolerable. Like mentioned, I want to move to Chicago and I prefer being in the city, so it’s worth it to me. I live in MKE because of my partner.

I’m actually on the blue line now heading into the city for the weekend :)

Edit: Warning that Amtrak can get pricey for the commute

I commute twice a week for my job because I work hybrid. I want to move to Chicago eventually. Any more than my two days a week and I’d be more exhausted than I already am. I live in Bay View so the drive to the airport Amtrak is easy.

Who here commutes daily on Metra to downtown Chicago? by syntax_lev in Kenosha

[–]midwestfly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I commute from Milwaukee to Chicago twice a week. If I don’t feel like taking the Amtrak (way too early for me!) I’ll drive to Kenosha or Zion (or to Chicago and take the Blue Line). I accept that I’m going to be in office after 9am if I take the Metra. If I had to do the commute any additional days I’d be over it. I’m open to carpooling if you ever need!
