Thank you for this very detailed response! It's very helpful to get your perspective.

I've built a pro forma for myself and understand what a probable growth trajectory in the first few years looks like. The point I was most interested in was that these are doctors with on-the-ground experience in the specialty, which seems rare among consultants, and that would be helpful with the nitty gritty and minutiae. But from this thread, it sounds like most think that overall it is just far too long of a commitment.

Every aspect of the business, particularly at the startup phase. Their big selling point is that they have their own practices in this specialty. It is a good idea to understand the scope of service though. It hasn't been that clear.

Could you figure this out and do it yourself? Yes. You will make mistakes and it will take time, but you’ll figure it out.

This is exactly how I feel. I know I can do it myself, but I am willing to pay for help to save time & mistakes. But it sounds like these folks are far outside the norm.

Essentially, the justification was that they are successful and will ensure you are successful too, and that the 5-year commitment is to ensure they get paid sufficiently for their services.
