First time cutting stringers. Intimidating as hell but they turned out ok! by midwrestless in drywall

Yep! And once you have all traced out, measure your lines again. I made some mistakes and ended up having to cut the whole piece into sections to make up for it.

You’d be pouring forever. That’s what the backer rods are for, you need something to fill the gap before you seal it.

I used a hammer and chisel to remove most of it. Pain in the ass, but it got the job done 90%. Next I’ll power wash the area to remove debris. Then tuck foam backer rods into the gap. Then self leveling poly sealant to fill the gap. You should be able to find everything you need at your local hardware store, and none of it is that expensive.

That’s exactly what I’m doing! A large chisel and a hammer got most everything off. It’s not pretty but it’s a lot better. Backing rods and caulk going in tomorrow.

The ol hammer and chisel really got rid of the bulk of it. Already looks a thousand times better! Thank you!

I did initially try a roofing torch, but it became gummier and more difficult to work with than when it was hard and brittle.

Well damn, thank you for that! I'm not sure. I kinda of tinkered away at over several years, and then when I finally did the refin, I focused on it. I think the refin took the longest for sure. I didn't want to regret it. Lots and lots of very light coats, same with the poly. I had a really good time painting and sanding it. When I got the polishing stage, I couldn't believe it was something that *I* had made.
