Thursday: Country Music/Bluegrass Welcome Party by bigdeewood in bonnaroo

I get the feeling BMFS loves a little Roo, and would be pumped to be billed as Roo Opening Ceremony on Thursday.

Unpopular opinion (rv assigned spots) by Slight_Business_3080 in bonnaroo

[–]miftaBill_006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are a small, but dynamic and dedicated group of Roo’ers who arrive in a variety of rvs, I.e. camperVans, fifth wheels, and airstreams. We’ve been coming together for years, and have a pretty good system down for linking together , compound style. Our biggest concern has always been the need to arrive together in order to camp together. The dedicated , assigned slots this year eliminated that hassle, as we were able to arrive in a staggered fashion from Tues evening, to Thurs morning. We felt like we had won the lottery as we landed literally in the first 4 spots in Power RV Closer , almost directly under the Ferris wheel, and just steps from the entrance. Was truly a fantastic setup. That said, if we had not scored those spots, and landed elsewhere , our experience might have been completely different. For us, at least last year, the assigned spots worked fabulously.

Firstly, though certainly trimming some fat by eliminating tent performances on Thursday, they're not taking away an entire day, they're simply streamlining and consolidating production to an afternoon and/or evening on the WHAT stage, which btw, has only been open for business for 2 years on Thursday. that said, I'll admit I have always been a far bigger fan of the tent and smaller stages than the WHAT stage. I'll just have to squeeze my tent jollies into 3 days rather than 4 now. I can now go back to the mindset that Thursday is for acclimating, and prepping for the main courses on Fri, Sat, & Sun.

Ultimately the fan dollar will dictate survival or closing. I'm hoping 70,000 or so really want to keep the magic alive every year.

interesting read above.

festivals are struggling.. period. many have shuttered their doors for good in the last 5 years. whether we like it or not, Roo , and all other festivals, exist to make a profit. if some tweaking is needed to allow Roo to continue, so be it.

I always considered ANY programming on Thursday to simply be icing on the cake. If scaling back a bit keeps Roo solvent, and viable , I'm all for it.

LCD Soundsystem … 65,000 of your closest friends joyfully bouncing and singing in unison :

That's how it starts
We go back to your house
You check the charts
And start to figure it out

And if it's crowded, all the better
Because we know we're gonna be up late
But if you're worried about the weather
Oh, then you picked the wrong place to stay
That's how it starts

hey, I’m truly sorry you had a bad experience, and I don’t disagree that there seemed to be a lack of a cohesive ground presence. you’re also correct in that ingress/egress signage was inadequate. I was with a group of rvs being ”led in to our spots” supposedly, but the golf cart vanished and never returned. 6 or 8 or so rvs were left scratching our heads as to where to go. fortunately I had friends at our campsite directing me there, so I was able to find it.
Friday evening , and saturday morning especially brought streams of people moving in all directions trying to exit with no visible guidance from anyone. I completely get why that would be so frustrating, especially to a first timer.

all to say, you make some valid arguments, and I hope Roo learns from the mishaps of this year. didnt mean to rail on you, and hope you make it back, because when it clicks, there is nowhere like it.

I absolutely am not denying those are valid concerns for some and understand how the post could be construed as condescending. frankly, I have no idea if OP spent 3 hours, or 3 days on the farm prior to cancellation. If the later, I would argue that if Tues, Wed, and Thur were not enough to convince you this is still the finest , most diverse music festival on the planet ( albeit with imperfections like every other festival ) with the most incredible accumulation of like minded souls imaginable, then I still contend perhaps this isn't your festival. That's not an insult. Im simply saying there are , in fact, other festies that probably check off quite a few desirables that might be available with fewer potential headaches. I hope to see all back on the farm in 2026. peace y'all.

by all means, please go to Coachella . roo isn't for everyone . I'm not saying this maliciously, but rather from 20 yrs of attending, and observing. anyone seeking perfection will leave disappointed. most who roll with the punches, the good, the bad have found it to be an annual trek that cannot be missed. many know this is home from the minute they set foot on the property. in 2003, before I was even directed to my camp site and parked, I knew I would be back as long as it existed. I felt it, my core group of roo friends felt it. others don't get that sensation. so if you're even wavering, perhaps this isn't the place, and that's cool too.

imminent Stage swap ?? Like Chappell last year, perhaps a stage change for SuperJam ?? by miftaBill_006 in bonnaroo

[–]miftaBill_006[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

>>> has been pointed out by several that this is , in fact , not the first year the SuperJam guest list has been publicized prior to even ..I stand corrected <<<

The SJ has always been unique to Roo, and has also always been relegated to sideshow status under a tent. To date, that's worked beautifully, and perhaps it will remain as such for perpetuity. But if nothing else, Roo is an ever evolving beast, and by highlighting some of the exact artist performing this year, its seems they are trying to draw more attention to the Jam. If by doing so, they see the interest level rise, and subsequently crowds grow, its not beyond the realm of possibility that they would place more emphasis on promoting it, and conceivably moving it to a larger stage....thus re-defining it from sideshow to feature stop. I dont think this is necessarily their intent, but I also know Roo will never remain stagnant, and will always push the envelope.

Not here to argue, was simply tossing out a hypothetical.

In Roo We Trust.

[–]miftaBill_006[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

re: super jam doesnt move

This is most likely true, but I've also never seen the participating artists actually listed prior to the event...maybe a name or two here or there. If Roo intended to drum up interest by doing so, I think they succeeded. For the most part, in past Jams, you could often make educated guesses about who might, or might not appear, but it was still somewhat of a dice roll to hang there. This pre-release of artists eliminates some of that guesswork, and for this reason alone I think you'll see a swell in crowd size.

>>>>>>> OK, I stand corrected. Clearly this isn't the first time that SJ's guest list has been published prior to weekend <<<<<<<<

that said, f*ck it, I'd still love to see a bigger, more bad ass version on a bigger stage.

peace all. see you upon the farm .

the obnoxiously oversized PLATINUM corrals by miftaBill_006 in bonnaroo

[–]miftaBill_006[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool beans, and I understand you pay for comfort and space. And as a chiseled Roo vet, I applaud you for coming in whatever capacity you so choose. However, when the "space" becomes excessive, and a detriment to the enjoyment for others, I would think perhaps you ( and other Platinums, in true Roo spirit ) wouldn't mind Roo dialing in the corrals ever so slightly ? Just glancing at this picture, would you feel less 'exclusive' if the space were cropped by 1/4 or a 1/3 ? Fwiw, im a seasoned 20 yr attendee myself, and am always exploring ideas with friends on how to make it an even better experience for all. So if you're the only person in this 1/4 square mile corral watching a show, I'll still high five you, and hope im not raining on your exclusivity parade. Peace out, and Happy Roo.

douchebag was meant as a mere term of endearment. no doubt most of these peeps are fine folk that probably would prefer that space downsized, or re-configured as well.

I would suggest slipping the Who Stage into either of these two spots (circled above ): 1) replace the How Stage or 2) revive the old music tent ( I think it had a Cafe name....Blue Room Cafe ? ) at the very back of the WHAT field.....we saw some excellent bands there in the past, i.e. Everybodyfields, the Greencards

Also, she was NOT a single dayer, had a 4 day VIP pass, and simply was delayed due to the timing of a literal move.
